Our prediction for this Championship match:
Swansea City will look to make amends for back-to-back defeats to Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City when they take on Rotherham United in the Championship round 34. The Swans experienced all sorts of problems at the back in the midweek defeat, but they are still seen as hot favourites to beat the Millers in front of home fans. Harry Darling has joined Steven Benda in the recovery room, with Olivier Ntcham likely to step up.
Rotherham, on the other hand, have been struggling on the travels this season, meaning that Swansea will not have a better chance than this to get back on course. Important defender Grant Hall suffered an injury in a 2-1 win over Sunderland, which is yet another reason why home win should be considered. Both Sean Morrison and Ben Wiles are out of contention with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Joe Allen):
Joe Allen is another high-quality footballer from the new generation of Wales internationals, who was part of the team that took Swansea from League One to the Premier League, and he had no problems adapting to arguably the strongest league championship in Europe.
Allen operated as a deep-lying playmaker as the Swans impressed upon reaching the elite division, with his excellent passing skills persuading Liverpool to splash £15 million on his services. The central midfielder didn’t exactly manage to develop into an indispensable member of the side at Anfield, but he is considered an important squad player and has always performed well when called upon.
Meanwhile, he has been one of the pillars of the most successful team in the Wales history together with Gareth Bale, Ashley Williams and Aaron Ramsey, while even representing Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Allen started five games for the Dragons as they secured the first ever appearance at the European Championship finals.
Highlighted Team (Rotherham):
Rotherham United are an English club that compete in the Championship. Rotherham United are located in Rotherham, South Yorkshire and they play their home games at New York Stadium and the capacity of the venue is 12,021.
The club was founded in 1925 as a merger between Rotherham County and Rotherham Town. The colour of Rotherham’s home kit was originally yellow and black, but nowadays they were red and white jerseys. The Millers made it to the FA Cup fifth round on two occasions (1952/1953, 1967/1968) and they have yet to play in the Premier League.
Rotherham United have won the Football League One twice (1950/1951, 1980/1981), but the club’s biggest success is participation in the 1960/1961 League Cup final. Sheffield United are regarded as Rotherham United’s fiercest rivals, but the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster could be considered Rotherham’s big rivals as well.
