Our prediction for this Championship match:
WBA will be aiming to build on a 3-0 win over Peterborough when they host Preston at the Hawthorns on Matchday 25. The Baggies faced no difficulties in the last league match, but they need to keep on making progress if they are to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League. Grady Diangana is pushing for a start after finding the net in the last league match, while Semi Ajayi is on international duty. All Robert Snodgrass, Kean Bryan, and Dara O’Shea should miss out with injuries.
The Lilywhites, on the other hand, aim to put an end to their three-game winless run. Since Preston are stuck in the middle of the table, we predict that the promotion-chasing hosts are going to emerge triumphant in Wednesday’s clash. All Josh Earl, Joshua Murphy, and Isaiah Brown are out of contention through injuries for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Callum Robinson):
Born in Northampton, Callum Robinson started his career at Aston Villa. Having gone through the youth ranks with the Villans, Robinson was given his first-team debut in 2013. As a product of the Aston Villa academy, Robinson unfortunately never got a chance to prove his worth at the club and ended up playing no less than 4 league appearances during his three-year stay at Villa Park.
Various loan spells – at Preston North End on two occasions and Bristol City – brought mixed fortunes for the striker up until 2016 when he sealed a permanent move with the Lillywhites. Robinson represented England at U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels but raised plenty of eyebrows when he declared for the Republic of Ireland in March 2018 through his late grandmother who was from Monaghan.
The striker made his senior team breakthrough in Republic of Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Celtic in Scott Brown’s testimonial match and will be hoping to prove doubters wrong and prove his motive is bigger than career opportunism.
Highlighted Team (Preston):
Preston North End or Preston were founded in 1880. The Lilywhites or the Invincibles play their home games at Deepdale, the stadium that was built in 1875 and opened three years later.
In 1889 Preston won their first FA Cup trophy and they did well to beat Huddersfield Town in the final of the 1938 FA Cup final. However, the club’s biggest success came in 1889 and 1890 when they won back-to-back domestic trophies (First Division).
Preston have yet to win the League Cup title, but they were runners-up in 1888, 1922, 1937, 1954, 1964. Preston’s main rivals are Blackpool and the two teams square off against each other in the West Lancashire derby. In their first ever meeting in the West Lancashire derby (1901) Preston recorded a 4-1 win over Blackpool.
Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are considered Preston’s big rivals as well. The colour of Preston’s shirts is white and they wear dark blue shorts.
