Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Johan Cruijff Arena will host Wednesday’s Champions League game between Ajax and Rangers, who meet for the first time since October 1996. Back then Ajax recorded back-to-back wins over Rangers, and, no doubt, Alfred Schreuder’s troops want the history to be repeated. Pacey winger Antony is no longer part of the team, but summer signing Steven Bergwijn, who scored a brace in a 4-0 win over Cambuur, will pose a big threat to the opposition back-line. Summer signing Lucas Ocampos is pushing for his full Ajax debut, while both Setford and Wijndal should miss out with injuries.
The Gers, on the other hand, must be low on spirits following a heart-breaking defeat to Celtic in the Old Firm derby, and seeing that Ajax are a real force to be reckoned with at home, we do not believe that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s troops are capable of grabbing something from the match. To make things even worse for the Scottish outfit, their injury list is pretty long.
Highlighted Player (Daley Blind):
Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on March 9, 1990, Daley Blind is a professional footballer who plays for Eredivisie club Ajax. Blind is a product of the famous football school, and he made his debut with the Amsterdammers on December 7, 2018, against Volendam.
After a short loan spell with Groningen, Daley Blind join Premier League giants Manchester United for a fee of £13.8 million in August, 2014. After scoring four goals in 90 league appearances for the Red Devils, the Dutch footballer returned to Ajax in the summer of 2018. Speaking of his international career, Daley Blind made his Netherlands debut on February 6, 2013 in a 1-1 draw with Italy.
The following year the left-footed footballer represented Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup. He opened his goal-scoring account with the Oranje in a 3-0 loss to Brazil in the third-place play-off. As for his personal life, it has to be noted that Daley Blind is the son of the former Ajax defenders and the Netherlands boss Danny Blind.
Highlighted Team (Rangers):
Glasgow Rangers are one of the two synonyms for Scottish Football. Glasgow Rangers were founded back in 1872 and they have been playing an important role in the Scottish top flight ever since. The Gers won their 54th Scottish Premier League title in the 2010/2011 season, but winning of European Cup Winners’ Cup trophy in 1972 is considered the club’s biggest success.
Glasgow Rangers defeated Dynamo Moscow in the final of the competition, with the likes of Stein and Johnston (two goals) scoring for the Scottish side. Celtic are considered the club’s biggest rivals and there have always been fireworks when the two teams meet in the Old Firm derby. The likes of Paul Gascoigne, David Weir, Stefan Klos, Chris Boyd, Ian Durrant and Kenny Miller are some of Rangers’ former notable players.
It has to be noted that the Gers welcome their rivals at Ibrox Stadium, the venue with the capacity of 50,817. Rangers’ support is largely drawn from the Protestant Unionist community.
