Our prediction for this Champions League match:
David faces Goliath at Allianz Arena as Bayern Munich and Slovan Bratislava lock horns in the Champions League round 8. The Bavarians aim to recover from a shocking 3-0 loss to Feyenoord and a win over Slovan could see them secure a top-eight finish. Second-choice goalkeeper Sven Ulreich misses out through suspension as well as midfielder Leon Goretzka, while Konrad Laimer is back from the Bundesliga ban.
Slovan Bratislava, on the other hand, have served as a cannon fodder for their rivals in the 2024/2025 Champions League campaign. As Vladimir Weiss’ men have nothing to play for in Wednesday’s clash, anything but a routine home triumph would be a big surprise. Both Adler and Juraj Kucka miss out with injuries for the away team, while Togo forward Idjessi Metsoko is pushing for a start after scoring as a substitute in a 3-1 loss to Stuttgart in round 7.
Highlighted Player (Harry Kane):
Widely regarded as one of England’s best strikers at the moment, Harry Kane enjoyed a meteoric rise at Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 21 Premier League goals during the 2014/2015 campaign to be voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
The highly rated striker went on to surpass that achievement the following season as he helped Tottenham Hotspur mount a serious title challenge for the first time in club’s recent history and he made seamless transition to international football. Kane scored four goals in his first ten appearances for England to prove he was here to stay and at the same time established himself as a first choice striker in Roy Hodgson’s squad ahead of the Euro 2016 finals.
Kane is a modern striker, who is extremely dangerous in the opposition box, but it was some outstanding goals from distance as well as link-up play with teammates that earned him an excellent reputation in world football. Kane is expected to lead both Tottenham and England in years to come, that is if he can resist the lure of top European clubs that continue to cast admiring glances his way.
Highlighted Team (Slovan Bratislava):
Over the years Slovan Bratislava have established themselves as the most successful Slovakian club. The Belasi clinched their 13th domestic trophy in the 2018/2019 season, finishing the campaign 14 points clear of second-placed Zilina. Slovan Bratislava welcome their rivals at Tehelne pole, the stadium with the capacity of 22,500.
The Tehelne pole club wear white shirts and white shorts when playing at home, while blue is the dominant colour of their away kit. Spartak Trnava are regarded as the club’s fiercest rivals, but they hold the rivalry with DAC Dunajska Streda as well. There have always been fireworks in matches between Slovan and Inter Bratislava, especially when both teams were part of the Czechoslovak First League.
In the 1968/69 season Slovan Bratislava won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, with the team beating star-studded La Liga side Barcelona in the title game. It has to be noted that the likes of Cvetler, Hrivnak and Jan Capkovic scored for the Slovaks in the final of the European competition.
