Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Signal-Iduna-Park will host Wednesday’s Champions League game between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, the two teams who meet for the first time ever in European competitions. The Yellow-Blacks have been impressive in 2023, with the team extending their winning run to six games in all competitions at Werder Bremen, and they must be high on spirits ahead of the visit of Chelsea. Fit-again forward Sebastien Haller is pushing for a start, while Karim Adeyemi is back from suspension. Talented attacker Yoossoufa Moukoko has joined the likes of Wolf, Kamara, and Morey in the recovery room.
Meanwhile, the Blues head into the match following a 1-1 draw with West Ham United. The club chiefs did well to reinforce the squad in the January transfer window, but seeing that the latest signings have yet to adapt to the new surroundings, we are tempted to put our money on the in-form Germans. As for the visitors, all Sterling, Zakaria, and Kovacic are major doubts, while Pulisic, Mendy, Kante, and Broja remain on the sidelines with injuries. Madueke and Badiashile are not available for selection.
Highlighted Player (Mats Hummels):
The German central defender Mats Hummels soccer since 1995 in the youth of Bayern Munich. At this club in 2007 he makes his debut in professional football but the real breakthrough to rival Borussia Dortmund. After just one game in the first team to have played Bayren Munich leaves Hummels in 2008 first on a rental basis, later permanently to another German club, Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund paid the club from Munich in 2009 a transfer fee of 4 million euros.
In the 2010-2011 season playing Hummels in the base and he stands out with its excellent playmaking, tackles and defensive actions. Mats comes to 32 league matches, scoring five goals and win the league title with Borussia. He is then seen as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga. The league title is won in the 2011-2012 season. This time with 81 points, an absolute Bundesliga record.
Mats Hummels plays his first match for Germany on May 13, 2010. He is the game in the second half for Serdar Tasci when playing at home against England (3-0). During the Euro 2012 play Hummels all matches. Germany is in the semi-final by Italy (1-2).
Highlighted Team (Chelsea):
Over the years Chelsea have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in the English Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo helped the team win their first ever Champions League trophy (2011/2012), but it has to be noted that they were more than fortunate to beat Bayern Munich in the title game.
Chelsea have been playing at Stamford Bridge since 1876 and they are a real force to be reckoned with at home. The Blues have won seven FA Cups, five League Cups, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups and the UEFA Europa League. Rafael Benitez was in charge of the team that faced Benfica in the 2012/2013 Europa League final, with Branislav Ivanovic scoring the winner for the Blues in the title clash.
After lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, the Blues largely struggled in the next campaign, which saw Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the club come to an end, and Antoine Conte went over to take the reigns for the 2016/2017 season.
