Our prediction for this Copa America match:
Ecuador will try to bounce back from a shocking loss to Venezuela when they face Jamaica at Allegiant Stadium in their second group game. La Tri face a must-win situation in Wednesday’s clash and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at the Reggae Boyz. Key attacker Enner Valencia misses out through suspension, with Atlas man Jordy Caicedo likely to step up. In Valencia’s absence, a man to watch in the home team will be Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento, who scored the opener against La Vinotinto.
Jamaica, on the other hand, suffered a 1-0 loss to Mexico in the opening match of their 2024 Copa America campaign. As always, all eyes will be on West Ham striker Michail Antonio, speaking of the nominal visitors, but seeing that Ecuador do not suit Jamaica, home win should be considered. You should know that the Reggae Boyz conceded seven goals in total in the previous two meetings with La Tri. Both Amari’i Bell and Andre Blake are injury for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Andre Blake):
Andre Blake is a Jamaican goalkeeper who plays for MLS club Philadelphia Union. Blake was born in May Pen, Jamaica, on November 21, 1990, but he went to the UConn college in United States of America. The 193-cm-tall shoot-stopper spent three years playing college football and in 2014 he signed a professional contract with Philadelphia Union.
Andre Blake made his debut for the U in July 2014 in a friendly game against Crystal Palace and he played his first MLS match against Montreal Impact. Speaking of his international career, the goalkeeper made his Jamaica debut on March 2, 2014 in a 2-0 victory over Barbados. Later that year Andre Blake won the Caribbean Cup with the Reggae Boyz as they defeated Trinidad and Tobago on penalties in the title game.
Over the years Blake has established himself as a first-team regular and, no doubt, there is a bright future ahead of him. The Philadelphia Union shoot-stopper wears the number 18 on his shirt.
Highlighted Team (Ecuador):
Ecuador had endured difficult times in footballing terms having been considered to be one of the more struggling football nations in South America, but the Tri have managed to transform themselves into a team that can never be taken lightly at the international scene.
Ecuador has taken part in three of the 22 World Cups with 12 position they achieved in 2006 in Germany being their best result so far. La Tricolor head into Copa America Centenario tied at the top of CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifying table and their chances of making it through from group B have been increased with good results and alike performances.
Ivan Hurtado played for El Tri since 1992 to 2014 and former centre-back remains the most capped international with 168 games to his name. Ecuador captain Walter Ayovi is the active player with most games in the national team, while Felipe Caicedo with 19 goals is the top scorer of Gustavo Quinteros’ side.
