Our prediction for this Coupe de France match:
Montpellier will look to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Olympique Marseille when they take on Pau at Nouste Camp. La Paillade aim to kick off their Coupe de France campaign in style, and we are positive that they will adopt an attack-minded approach in Friday’s clash. All Bertaud, Khazri, Mendes, Saint-Luce, and Tchato should miss out with injuries, while both Germain and Chotard are pushing for a start.
The Ligue 2 side, on the other hand, are not enjoying a season to remember, with the team sitting in 13th place in the standings. Pau are eager to claim a major scalp in the French Cup, but seeing that they failed to impress in back-to-back league defeats to Paris FC and Niort, we are tempted to put our money on the Ligue 1 team. A man to watch in the home side will be experienced midfielder Henri Saivet.
Highlighted Player (Falaye Sacko):
Born in Bamako, Mali on May 1, 1995, Falaye Sacko is a pacey right-back, who plays for Vitoria Guimaraes in the Primeira Liga. Sacko has 11 caps with Mali, and he scored his first goal with the national team on June 16, 2019 in a friendly against Algeria.
Speaking of his club career, Sacko started his senior career at Djoliba, and in 2015 he joined Hungarian outfit Ujpest. After failing to see any game action in the Hungarian top flight, the Mali international moved to Vitoria Guimaraes in 2016. He first played for the Guimaraes B team, making his professional debut in the Segunda Liga clash against Atletico CP on February 17, 2016.
Falaye Sacko, who has established himself as a first-team regular at Vitoria Guimaraes, wears the No. 17 jersey. His primary position right-back, but he is used as a left-back as well.
Highlighted Team (Montpellier):
Over the years Montpellier have established themselves as a mid-table side in French Ligue 1. Montpellier are considered one of the youngest clubs in France as they were founded in 1974, but it has to be noted that a number of high-profile footballers played for the club in the past. French football legend Laurent Blanc played for Montpellier from 1981-1993 and he scored 76 goals in 24 appearances in the league for the club. Eric Cantona, Roger Milla, Carlos Valderama and Olivier Giroud played in Montpellier’s colors as well, but Pascal Baills is the player with most appearances for the club (429).
La Paillade did remarkably well to win the Ligue 1 trophy in 2012 and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Montpellier won Coupe de France on two occasions (1929, 1990), with the team beating FC Sete and FC Paris respectively in the title games. The team welcome their rivals at Stade de la Mosson and the capacity of the stadium is 32.900. In 1999 Montpellier won the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
