Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Huddersfield Town will be aiming to claim a major scalp in the EFL Cup last 32 when they take on star-studded Manchester City at their John Smith’s Stadium. The Terriers are eyeing their first win over Man City since 1999 when the two teams faced each other in the Championship, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry this time out. Goalkeeper Owen Goodman is back from suspension, while all Chapman, Evans, Kane, McGuane, Miller, and Whatmough have been struggling with injuries of late.
The Citizens, meanwhile, were on the verge of beating Arsenal in the Premier League derby at the weekend, but Martinelli’s late goal eventually saved one point for the Gunners. Even though Pep Guardiola is expected to mix the squad against Huddersfield, away win should be considered as the Citizens have big ambitions for the 2025/2026 EFL campaign. All Nico Gonzalez, Nathan Ake, and Matheus Nunes are pushing for a start, while the likes of Omar Marmoush, Rayan Cherki, and Mateo Kovacic remain in the recovery room.
Highlighted Player (Mateo Kovacic):

Born to Croatian parents in Linz, Austria, Mateo Kovacic spent seven years in the LASK Linz youth academy before joining Dinamo Zagreb, where he showed a great deal of potential shortly after being promoted to the senior squad.
The good return of 7 goals in 43 league appearances saw him secure a high-profile move to Inter Milan, where he acted as both holding midfielder and attacking midfielder, during the three years at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. And despite not exactly impressing in Italy, Kovacic was purchased by mighty Real Madrid, where he has been ever since. The youngster is widely regarded as one of Croatia’s most talented footballers at the moment and he has represented the country on international stage since the age of 19.
In just three years he managed to make over 25 appearances for the national team, playing at the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016 finals for Vatreni. Kovavic has yet to be given a real chance to impress at Real Madrid, but he has entire future ahead of him.
Highlighted Team (Huddersfield):

Back in 1926 Huddersfield Town became the first English club to win three straight domestic trophies. Since 1908 the Terriers were playing at Leeds Road, but in 1994 John Smith’s Stadium became home of Huddersfield Town. The club play in the English second tier (Championship) and the colour of the their home kit is blue and white (stripes).
Huddersfield Town were founded in 1910 and just three years later they entered the Football League. In 1926 the Terriers won their last domestic trophy, but they did well finishing runners up in the FA Cup 1920. The club’s biggest rivals are Leeds United and it has to be noted that Huddersfield Town have better head-to-head record of the two teams.
Bradford City are considered Huddersfield’s local rivals as well, but there are small rivalries with Barnsley, Halifax Town, Manchester City and Oldham Athletic. The club’s chairman is Dean Hoyle.
