EFL Cup predictions by Footballpredictions.com

EFL Cup or Carabao Cup is an English annual knockout football competition where 92 clubs within the top four levels of the English football league system compete every season.

The competition is divided into seven rounds, with 32 teams competing in the third round of the EFL Cup. Teams that represent England in European competition book their place in the third round automatically.

Unlike FA Cup which ends in May, the Carabao Cup concludes in February, with the title game taking place at Wembley Stadium.

The winners of the Carabao Cup receive the trophy which weights 2.967 kg and measures 27 cm by 20.5 cm. The trophy is worth £20,000.

The EFL Cup has a rich history

Aston Villa are the first winners of the English League Cup as they defeated Rotherham United 3-2 on aggregate in the final of the competition back in 1961. The Millers defeated the Villans 2-0 in front of home fans, but the Villa Park outfit did well to overcome the deficit in the return leg.

Former Oldham Athletic forward Frankie Bunn holds the record for most goals scored in a match, as he found the net six times in a win over Scarborough on October 25, 1989, whilst West Ham United recorded the biggest ever win in the EFL Cup as they crushed Bury 10-0 back in 1983.

Three years later Liverpool outclassed Fulham with the same outcome (10-0).

Speaking of the Reds, they are the most successful team in the history of the EFL Cup as they clinched their 8th trophy in the 2011/2012 season, beating Cardiff City on penalties in the title game.

EFL Cup Tips, Predictions and Betting advice

If you aim to find your bet of the day, make sure you study our EFL Cup predictions which include team news, current form and head-to-head record.

Coaches often rest key players in the Carabao Cup games as top teams often play on four fronts in a season, therefore, checking out team news could be the key to your success when it comes to betting on the EFL Cup.

Underdogs tend to go all the way

Lower-league teams often go all the way in the EFL Cup, with, for example, Bradford City making it to the final of the competition in 2013.

Underdogs oftentimes claim major scalps in the Carabao Cup as coaches of top Premier League teams use EFL Cup games to test as many players as possible.

However, you should bear in mind that in the final stages of the competition coaches count on key players as the winner is guaranteed a place in the Europa League.

Popular betting tips

As previously mentioned, betting on favourites in the EFL Cup is unlikely to prove to be a boost to your betting account, therefore, we recommend you to bet on goals when it comes to the second most popular cup competition in England.

Long-term bets should be considered as there are coaches who aim to win everything. For example, former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho rarely rested first-team regulars in the EFL Cup games due to his winning mentality.
