Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Sheffield United will be aiming to seal their spot in the EFL Cup round 3 when they host Lincoln to their Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening. The Blades do not seem to be competitive in the new Premier League campaign, but they will not have a better chance than this to register their first win of the season. Since Sheffield United were on the verge of sharing the spoils with star-studded Man City at the weekend, home win should definitely be considered.
The likes of Max Lowe, Ben Osborn, John Fleck, Daniel Jebbison, Rhian Brewster, and Norrington-Davies should miss out with injuries. The Imps, on the other hand, proved their worth in back-to-back wins over Shrewsbury and Blackpool, but it seems as if they are fully focused on the League One this season. Sheffield United want this win more than Lincoln and we predict that the Premier League side will make it to the EFL Cup last 32.
Highlighted Player (Oliver Norwood):
Oliver Norwood is a Reading midfielder who began his youth career at Manchester United. Norwood made his debut for the reserve team against Middlesbrough in November, 2007, but he did not get a chance to play for the first team. After ending his loan spell with Coventry City in 2012, the 180-cm-tall midfielder signed a contract with Huddersfield Town.
Oliver Norwood scored eight goals in 80 league appearances for the club between 2012 and 2014. Later in 2014 he joined Reading for an undisclosed fee and he made his debut for the Royals against Nottingham Forest on 23 August, 2014.
Norwood was born in Burnley, England and he has six caps for England U16 team. He played three games for the U17 team as well, but he then decided to represent Northern Ireland as his heritage is Northern Irish. Norwood made his debut for the Green and White Army on 11 August, 2010, in a 2-0 loss to Montenegro. He replaced Sammy Clingan in the second half of the match.
Highlighted Team (Lincoln):
Lincoln City are one of the oldest clubs competing in the League One as they were founded back in 1884. Lincoln City FC were established as an amateur association, but they turned professional in the 1891/1892 season.
Back then they played at John O’Gaunts stadium, but nowadays Sincil Bank is the club’s home ground. Sincil Bank was opened in 1895, holding up to 10,120 people. The club’s main colours are red, white and black, whilst the Imps wear green shirts and white shorts when playing on the road. Lincoln City and Mansfield Town are regarded as the club’s fiercest rivals, but the Limps had some sort of local rivalry with Peterborough United, Hull City and York City as well.
Albert Iremonger (42 years and 312 days) is the oldest footballer to have played for the club, whilst Shane Nicholson (16 years and 112 days) is the youngest one. Lincoln City recorded a thrilling 9-1 victory over then local rivals Sleaford in their first game.
