Our prediction for this Euro 2020 match:
Belgium will look to cement top position in Group B when they take on Denmark at Parken Stadium on Thursday evening. The Red Devils kicked off their EURO 2020 campaign in style, with the team rolling over hosts Russia 3-0 in Saint Petersburg. In Kevin De Bruyne’s absence, Romelu Lukaku led the Belgians to the victory, and, no doubt, the Inter attacker will pose a big threat to Denmark defenders as well.
Eden Hazard is pushing for a start, while aforementioned midfielder De Bruyne remains in the recovery room. Leicester right-back Timothy Castagne is yet another absentee in Roberto Martinez’s team. Denmark, on the other hand, had to deal with a tough situation in their opener, with key player Christian Eriksen collapsing following a heart attack. Since the hosts are low on spirits following the 1-0 loss to Finland, we are tempted to put our money on Red Devils.
Highlighted Player (Simon Kjaer):
Simon Kjaer began his senior career at FC Midtjylland and in 2008 he moved to Italy, signing a deal with Palermo. The Danish footballer scored his first goal for Palermo on 2 November in a 3-0 victory over Chievo Verona.
After making 62 league appearances for the Sicilian outfit he joined Wolfsburg on 30 June, 2010, playing 57 games in the Bundesliga with the Wolves. After ending his loan spell with Roma, the Danish defenders returns to Woflsburg and on 5 July, 2013 he moved to Lille.
The 189-cm-tall footballer, who was born in Horsens, Denmark on 16 March, 1989, signed a four-year deal with Fenerbahce on 16 June, 2015 for a fee of €7.65 million. Simon Kjaer was named Danish U19 Player of the Year in 2007 and he has 10 caps for the Denmark U19 team. The Fenerbahce defender played for Denmark at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and he started the games against Netherlands and Cameroon in the group stages of the showpiece tournament.
Highlighted Team (Belgium):
Present on the international stage since 1904, Belgium national team have had plenty of ups and downs in the past, finishing as runners up at the 1980 European Championship in Italy. The Red Devils also won the third place on home soil at the 1972 tournament, while they enjoyed some success at the World Cup finals as well.
Belgium qualified for 12 World Cup tournaments, reaching the semi-finals in 1986 and quarter-finals at the 2014 tournament in Brazil. It is the generation that played in Brazil that is believed to be the most talented team since the one featuring Enzo Scifo, Michel Preud’homme and Franky van der Elst.
Playing their home games at King Baudouin Stadium, the Red Devils have impressed at the start of the 21st century, with the likes of Eden Hazard, Vincent Kompany, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne just some of the world-class players in the squad. Following some impressive results in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and international friendlies, Belgium climbed to number 1 position in the FIFA Rankings in November 2015.
