Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Thursday’s football game at St. Jakob-Park pits together Basel and Trabzonspor, the two teams who are eyeing a spot in the Conference League last 16. Basel failed to impress in a 1-0 loss to Trabzonspor a week ago, with the team being lucky to concede more than one goal. The Rotblau, though, produce much better showings at home than on the travels, and we are positive that they will find the net in the second leg. Dan Ndoye is back from suspension, while Darian Males will miss the next match if he gets booked.
The Turks, on the other hand, failed to turn their dominance into more goals in the 1-0 victory over Basel, but given their attacking potential, we believe that there is a big value in betting on both teams to score. All Hamsik, Tokoz, and Visca have been struggling with injuries of late, speaking of the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Michael Lang):
Standing tall at 1.85 m, Michael Lang is a Swiss international defender who has gone through all ranks of the Switzerland national team to earn his senior call-up in 2013. Michael Jang began his professional career playing for FC St. Gallen where he spent five years before he moved to Grasshopper. During his four-year spell with the club he racked up 127 league appearances and scored 12 goals.
In 2015 Lang joined FC Basel on a free transfer, for whom he scored his first goal against the old club Grasshoppers only a week after his arrival. Michael Lang made 22 Swiss Super League appearance during the title winning season 2015-16, making an important contribution to his club’s 19th championship title in history.
During that time the 25-year-old Swiss international also managed to bag five goals for his club, which is regarded as a considerable tally for a defender. Having gone into the new season with two goals to his name already, Lang is expected to play a significant part in his team’s UEFA Champions League challenge.
Highlighted Team (Trabzonspor):
Founded on August 2, 1967, Trabzonspor are a Turkish club that compete in the Super Lig. The Karadeniz Firtinasi welcome their rivals at Medical Park Stadyumu, the venue which can hold up to 38,477 people. Trabzonspor were the dominant force in the Turkish top flight from 1975 to 1984, with the team clinching six domestic titles during that period.
The Turkish outfit booked their place in European competitions for the first time in the 1976/77, while making it to the Champions League group stages in the 2011/2012 season. Trabzonspor are well known for their claret and blue kits. After their foundation in 1967 English club Aston Villa sent a set of kits to Trabzonspor, which is the main reason why the two clubs wear the same colours.
Daniel Sturridge is the team’s most notable player. The former Liverpool man, who won the Champions League title with the Premier League side, joined the club in the summer of 2019 as a free agent.
