Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Celje aim to secure their place in the Conference League playoffs by recording another victory over Lugano on Thursday night. The Slovenians rolled over the Swiss outfit 5-0 in the first leg and, as a result, the visitors need a miracle in the reverse fixture to sneak into the playoffs. Top scorer Franko Kovacevic is widely expected to return to the Celje starting XI after scoring a brace as a substitute against Mura (3-0), while there are no fresh injury worries in the home team.
The Swiss outfit, meanwhile, have no choice but to throw everything forward in the second leg, likely leaving their defence exposed, particularly on the break. Given Lugano’s defensive struggles and Celje’s splendid form, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the home side. Defender Lukas Mai is rated doubtful for the visiting side after limping off with injury in a 3-1 loss to Lugano at the weekend.
