Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Stadion Maksimir will be packed when Dinamo Zagreb and Real Betis take on each other in an eagerly-awaited Conference League game. Dinamo Zagreb were more than fortunate to win the first leg, with Bruno Petkovic sealing the victory from the penalty spot. The Croatian champions are eager to defend their slim lead in front of home fans and we are positive that they will adopt yet another defence-minded approach. Barring any fresh injury worries, Sergej Jakirovic is unlikely to make changes to the team that defeated los Beticos at “Benito Villamarin”.
The Andalusians, on the other hand, are desperate to overcome the deficit, but beating Dinamo Zagreb at Stadion Maksimir is easier said than done. Anyhow, yet another low-scoring affair is on the cards as there have been under 2.5 goals in each of Real Betis’ five games in all competitions. Defender German Pezzella serves a one-game ban for the La Liga outfit.
Highlighted Player (William Carvalho):
Angola-born defensive midfielder William Carvalho has overseen a dramatic rise in his stock over the past few seasons at Sporting. William Carvalho is coming from a proper football family since his father and grandfather were also footballers, but his way to the top has had a somewhat dramatic twist to it.
Carvalho moved to Portugal as a child and first started playing football in the streets before he was picked up by Recreativos Desportivos de Algueriao. William Carvalho joined the Sporting football academy at the age of 13 The 24-year-old Portugal star player has spent two years on loan at Fatima and Cercle Brugge, before he got the chance to cement his place in the starting line-up for Portuguese giants.
William Carvalho came through all youth ranks with the Portugal national team, while he was given his senior debut in 2013. Carvalho played an important role in his country’s maiden European Championship title in France over the summer.
Highlighted Team (Dinamo Zagreb):
Arguably the biggest club in Croatia and one of the most prominent football outfits in the Balkan region, Dinamo Zagreb have won 18 league titles, 11 of which came successively. Dinamo Zagreb have never been relegated to a lower tier of both Croatian and Yugoslav football.
Modri as they are called in Croatia are renowned for their impressive production line of youth footballers. Their highly organised football academy has so far produced world-class players such as Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, Marko Pjaca and many others. Dinamo Zagreb play their home matches at the Stadion Maksimir in front of 35,000 people.
The club lacked support during the last couple of seasons due to fans’ disagreement with club management, most notably notorious Zdravko Mamic, who is under investigation for long-lasting corruption, tax evasion and embezzlement. For the first time since 2015, Dinamo Zagreb will have the full support of their most faithful supporters in the Champions League.
