Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Gent play host to Qarabag at their Ghelamco Arena in the Europa Conference League last 32, first leg. Gent are eager to get their revenge on Qarabag for a 1-0 loss at Tofiq Bahramov Stadium, and we are positive that the hosts will go all guns blazing at the Azeri. All Lemajic, Odjidja-Ofoe, Piatkowski, Samoise, and Tissoudali are sidelined with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the home team.
The visitors, on the other hand, defeated Zira in their last league match, but they will have a mountain to climb against Gent, who have turned their Ghelamco Arena into a real fortress. As for the visiting side, Kevin Medina is banned for the match, while both Mahammadaliyev and Huseynov continue to miss out with injuries. A man to watch in the home team will be Hugo Cuypers, who impressed in a 2-0 win over Leuven at the weekend.
Highlighted Player (Sven Kums):
Belgian defender Sven Kums began his youth career at Dilbeek Sport and in 1996 he joined Anderlecht. Despite spending seven years at the club, he did not see any game action with the Belgian giants at senior level. After ending his loan spells with the likes of Lierse and Kortrijk, he signed a permanent deal with de Kerels in 2008.
The 176-cm-tall midfielder, who was born on 26 February, 1988, scored 12 goals in 116 league appearances for Kortrijk and in 2011 he moved to Netherlands, signing a contract with Heerenveen. In 2013 he returned to Belgium, joining Zulte Waregem.
In the summer of 2014 he moved to fellow Belgian outfit Gent and at the end of the 2015/2016 season he signed a loan deal with Udinese. Kums has 12 caps for Belgium U21 and it has to be noted that his father Ludo Kums is working as a coach at Anderlecht. Sven Kums is a centre midfielder, but he plays as both attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (Qarabag):
Over the years Qarabag have established themselves as one of the best teams in Azerbaijan. The club was founded in 1951 and they were playing under the name of Mehsul back then. Qarabag won their first trophy in the national championship in 1993, beating Khazar Sumgayit in the title game.
In the 2015/2016 season they won their fourth domestic trophy, with the team finishing the season 22 points clear of second-placed Zira. Qarabag participated in the 2016/2017 Champions League qualifiers, but they were more than unfortunate to suffer a loss to Viktoria Plzen in the two-legged tie. The Azerbaijan outfit were beaten by the Czechs on away goal rule and, as a result, they made it to the Europa League playoffs.
Thanks to a win over Goteborg in the double-header Qarabag made it to the knockout stages of the competition. The Horsemen play their home games at Azersun Arena and their home colours are black. Qarabag play their away games in white kits.
