Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Hibernian will look to kick off their 2023/2024 Conference League campaign in great manner when they take on Inter Escaldes on Thursday afternoon. The Hibs are seen as hot favourites to win this double-header, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. New signing Elie Youan is widely expected to make his official Hibernian debut against Inter Escaldes. Yet another new recruit Adam Le Fondre is likely to start from the bench.
The hosts, on the other hand, have been handed a tough draw in round 2 and they have no other option but to adopt a defence-minded approach in the first leg. Anyhow, away win should be considered as David faces Goliath at Estadi Comunal d’Andorra la Vella. In their last meeting with the Andorran outfit in the competition Hibernian defeated FC Santa Coloma 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Christian Doidge):
Over the years Christian Doidge has established himself as one of the best attackers in Scotland Premiership. Born on August 25, 1992 in Newport, Doidge is a Wales international who plays for Hibernian in the Scottish top flight.
He is a product of the Southampton football academy, but he did not see any game action in the Premier League with the Saints. The towering striker played for Bristol Rovers during his youth career as well before joining Cwmbran Celtic at senior level. He played for the likes of Barry Town, Carmanthen Town, Dag & Red, Dartford (loan), Forest Green Rovers, and Bolton Wanderers (loan) as well before signing a deal with the Hibs.
Christian Doidge made his Scotland Premier League debut on August 3, 2019 in a 1-0 win over St. Mirren. The Wales attacker scored his first league goal for the Hibs against the same opponent three months late. Doidge has yet to receive a call-up for the Wales national football team.
Highlighted Team (Hibernian):
Founded in August 1875, Hibernian are the Scottish Premier League team that play home matches at Easter Road. The capacity of the venue is 20,421, and it was opened in 1893. The Hibs wear light green shirts with white sleeves and white shorts in home matches, while light grey is the dominant colour of their away kit.
Hibernian clinched their first Scottish league trophy back in the 1902/03 season, and they were the dominant force in Scottish football in the early 50s, securing three titles more from 1948 to 1952. The Easter Road outfit recorded their biggest win on September 3, 1881, with the team rolling over Black Watch Highlanders 22-1.
In February 1961, the Hibs suffered the biggest defeat in the club's history as they were beaten by Airdrie 11-1. Hibernian and Hearts face each other in the Edinburgh derby. The rivalry between the two clubs is considered one of the oldest rivalries in world football.
