Our prediction for this match:
Stade de Marrakech (neutral location) will host Tuesday’s friendly between Mali and Nigeria, the two African sides who meet for the first time since September 2017. Les Aigles aim to build on a 2-0 win over Mauritania, but they face a difficult task in the clash with Nigeria. All Traore, Doumbia, Diambou, and Nene are pushing for recalls to the starting XI as boss Eric Chelle is widely expected to mix the squad.
The Super Eagles, on the other hand, proved their worth in a 2-1 win over Ghana, but Tuesday’s clash will be anything but a walk in the park for the Nigerians. As the nominal visitors will be without Napoli ace Victor Osimhen in the Stade de Marrakech showdown, we are tempted to put our money on draw. Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman is widely expected to return to the starting line-up after scoring as a substitute in the triumph over the Black Stars.
Highlighted Player (Alex Iwobi):
Alex Iwobi is one of the most talented African footballers. The Nigerian football player was born in Lagos on May 3, 1996, but he moved to Arsenal at the age of 8. In 2015 he made his first-team debut for the Gunners, starting in a 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup.
Speaking of his Premier League debut, Alex Iwobi played his first game for Arsenal in a 3-0 victory over Swansea City in October, 2015. The pacey winger played for England at youth level, but he eventually went on to play for Nigeria. Iwobi made his senior debut with the Super Eagles on October 8, 2015, coming as a substitute for Ahmed Musa in a 2-0 loss to DR Congo.
On October 7, 2017 the Arsenal footballer scored the winner for Nigeria against Zambia (1-0) which helped the Super Eagles book their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals. Speaking of his individual trophies, Alex Iwobi was named CAF Young Player of the Year 2016.
Highlighted Team (Mali):
Mali are an African football team that have never participated at the World Cup finals. Les Aigles (the Eagles), though, did well to make it to the 1972 African Cup of Nations final, with the team facing Congo in the title game.
Mali suffered a 3-2 loss to Pierre Lechantre’s men back then, but that is regarded as the team’s biggest success. The Malian national football team play their home games in yellow shirts and yellow shorts, while the colour of the team’s away kit is white. Stade du 26 Mars is regarded as the home stadium of Mali and the capacity of the venue is 60,000. Les Aigles won the Amilcar Cabral Cup on three occasions (1989, 1997 and 2007) and they made it to the final of the tournament four times.
Frederic Kanoute is the most notable footballer who played for the Malian national team and the former Sevilla and Tottenham attacker scored 23 goals in 39 appearances for the Eagles.
