Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Cambridge United will look to bounce back from a massive 4-1 loss to Wycombe Wanderers when they welcome Morecambe to their Abbey Stadium on Saturday. The Yellows missed out on a place in the playoffs, and seeing that they have little to play for in the season finale, home win should not be considered. Harvey Knibbs is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while Greg Taylor continues to miss out with injury.
The Shrimps, on the other hand, are desperate to escape the danger zone, and they should take advantage of Cambridge United’s shaky defence. Morecambe proved their worth in back-to-back wins over Burton Albion and Oxford United, and we predict that they will give fans yet another reason for celebration on Matchday 42. Both Anthony O’Connor and Greg Leigh are likely to miss the game with injuries for the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Liam O’Neil):
Born in Cambridge, England on July 31, 1993, Liam O’Neil is an English footballer who plays as both defender as midfielder for Cambridge United in the League Two. O’Neil is a product of the Cambridge United football school, but he played for Histon during his youth career as well.
In the summer of 2012 he joined WBA youth academy, and it has to be noted that he made three appearances for the Baggies at senior level in all competitions. Liam O’Neil played for the likes of VPS and Scunthorpe United on loan as well before joining Chesterfield in 2015.
After scoring two goals in 45 appearances for the club in the league, O’Neil moved to Cambridge United in the winter of 2017. As his mother comes from Wales, O’Neil is open to play for the Wales national team, but he has yet to earn a cap with the Dragons.
Highlighted Team (Morecambe):
Based in Lancashire, England, Morecambe are a professional club that compete in the League 2. The Shrimps were founded in 1920, and they welcome their home rivals at Globe Arena. The venue, which was opened in August, 2010, can hold up to 6,476 people.
Morecambe wear red shirts and red shorts when playing in front of home fans, while yellow is the dominant colour of their away kit. Fellow Lancashire-based club Accrington Stanley are seen as the club’s fiercest rivals. The Shrimps have rivalries with the likes of Lancaster City, Fleetwood Town, Barrow, Kendal Town, and Southport as well.
In 1974 Morecambe won the FA Trophy as they defeated Dartford 2-1 in the title game, and 14 years later they lifted the Conference League Cup trophy. The Shrimps secured promotion into the Football League with a 2-1 win over Exeter City in the 2007 play-offs final.
