Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Abbey Stadium will host Tuesday’s League One game between Cambridge United and Plymouth, the two teams who defeated Accrington and Gillingham respectively at the weekend. The U’s are stuck in the middle of the standings, and, as things stand now, they will find it hard to book a place in the playoffs.
Since all Jack Iredale, Greg Taylor, Shilow Tracey, Lloyd Jones, and Joe Ironside are sidelined with injuries, home win should not be considered. The Pilgrims, on the other hand, are eyeing their fifth consecutive league win. Plymouth are determined to secure a top-six finish, and we predict that they will give fans yet another reason for celebration on Matchday 35. Both George Cox and Brendan Galloway are sidelined with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the away team ahead of the trip to Cambridge.
Highlighted Player (Liam O’Neil):
Born in Cambridge, England on July 31, 1993, Liam O’Neil is an English footballer who plays as both defender as midfielder for Cambridge United in the League Two. O’Neil is a product of the Cambridge United football school, but he played for Histon during his youth career as well.
In the summer of 2012 he joined WBA youth academy, and it has to be noted that he made three appearances for the Baggies at senior level in all competitions. Liam O’Neil played for the likes of VPS and Scunthorpe United on loan as well before joining Chesterfield in 2015.
After scoring two goals in 45 appearances for the club in the league, O’Neil moved to Cambridge United in the winter of 2017. As his mother comes from Wales, O’Neil is open to play for the Wales national team, but he has yet to earn a cap with the Dragons.
Highlighted Team (Plymouth):
Nicknamed the Pilgrims, Plymouth are a professional football club that host their rivals at Home Park. The stadium, which can hold up to 18,600 people, was built in 1892 and opened the following year. Plymouth footballers wear dark green jerseys and white shorts when playing in front of home fans, while light green and white are the dominant colours of their away kit.
The Pilgrims made it to the FA Cup semi-finals in the 1983-84 season, with the team advancing to the Football League Cup semis on two occasions (1964-65, 1973-74). The Pilgrims recorded their biggest win against Millwall on January 16, 1932, with the team beating the Lions 8-1, and they repeated the success in 1994 as they rolled over Hartlepool United in the Second Division.
The club suffered their heaviest defeat against Stoke City (0-9) on December 17, 1960. Fellow Devon teams Exeter City and Torquay United are seen as the club’s fiercest rivals.
