Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Greenhous Meadow will host Sunday’s League One game between Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield Wednesday. The Shrews have been showing signs of improvement of late, with the team beating both Cheltenham and Fleetwood, while sharing the spoils with Accrington in their last league match. Tom Bloxham continues to miss out through suspension, while important attacker Ryan Bowman has overcome his injury.
The Owls, on the other hand, are eyeing promotion to the Championship. Massimo Luongo is in the middle of a three-game ban, while both Dominic Iorfa and Lewis Gibson remain in the recovery room. Since all Dunkley, Adeniran, and Hutchinson should be fit for Sunday’s showdown, we are tempted to put our money on the visiting side this time out. In the first half of the season the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough.
Highlighted Player (Aaron Pierre):
Born on February 17, 1993 in Southall, England Aaron Pierre is a professional footballer who plays for Shrewsbury Town in the League One as a defender. Pierre started his youth career at Fulham at the age of 15 and in 2011 he moved to Brentford youth school.
Speaking of his senior career, the 185-cm-tall defender played for the likes of Brentford, Cambridge United, Wycombe Wanderers and Northampton Town before signing a deal with Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2019. Aaron Pierre signed for the League One side for an undisclosed fee, penning a three-year deal. Despite being born in England, the Shrewsbury Town footballer represents Granada on the international stage.
He received his first call-up for the Grenada national team in September, 2015, but he has yet to find the net with the Spice Boys. The Grenada international’s main position is centre-back, whereas his preferred foot is left.
Highlighted Team (Sheffield Wednesday):
Sheffield Wednesday are one of the two famous clubs from the city of Sheffield (South Yorkshire). The Owls compete in the English second tier (Championship) and they play their home matches at Hillsborough.
The venue was the scene of the Hillsborough disaster which occurred in 1989 when 96 Liverpool supporters were crushed to death in the FA Cup semi-final. It has to be noted that the World Cup (1966) and the Euro (1996) matches were played at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday have won four First Division trophies (1902/2903, 1903/1904, 1928/1929, 1929/2930) and they finished the 1960/1961 campaign in second place in the standings. The Owls have clinched three FA Cup trophies (1896, 1907, 1935), with the team winning the League Cup in 1991.
Sheffield Wednesday defeated English giants Manchester United (1-0) in the title game. Sheffield United are regarded as the Owls’ main rivals and the two teams face each other in the Steel City derby.
