Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Out-of-sorts Colchester United will look to put an end to their five-game losing run in the League Two when they take on Salford City on Matchday 23. The U’s have been struggling at the back of late, with the team slipping down the standings week by week and they must be low on confidence ahead of Friday’s encounter. Both Iandolo and Akinde are pushing for a start after the duo came off the bench in a 2-1 loss to ten-man Wrexham.
The Lions, on the other hand, failed to impress in a goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon, with the team taking only five shots on goal, but they are surely capable of matching the out-of-form hosts at Colchester Community Stadium. Anyhow, we are tempted to bet on both teams to score as both sides will go for a win in Friday’s clash. Experienced forward Conor McAleny is widely expected to return to Salford’s starting line-up.
Highlighted Player (Conor McAleny):
Conor McAleny is a product of Everton youth academy, joining the club from Merseyside in 2003 at the age of 11. Despite the fact that his main position is centre-forward, McAleny is used as both second striker and left winger as well. McAleny did spend his youth career at Goodison Park, but it has to be noted that he made no more than two appearances for the Toffees at senior level.
The English attacker, who was born in Whiston on August 12, 1992, made his first-team debut in a 1-0 Premier League loss to Arsenal on December, 2011. Conor McAleny played for the likes of Scunthorpe United, Brentford, Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic and Oxford United before signing a deal with Fleetwood Town.
The right-footed striker spent the second half of the 2018/2019 season on loan at Kilmarnock, scoring 3 goals in 11 appearances for the club in the Scottish Premier League.
Highlighted Team (Colchester):
Founded in 1937, Colchester United are a professional football club that compete in the League Two, the English fourth tier. The U’s welcome their rivals at Colchester Community Stadium, the venue which has the capacity of 10,105 people.
Colchester United are well known for their blue kit, but white is the dominant colour of their away kit. The U’s have an official fans association known as the CUSA. Colchester supporters consider Wycombe Wanderers the club’s fiercest rivals, but the rivalries with Southend United and Ipswich Town are big as well. Colchester United did well to win the FA Trophy in the 1991/92 season, with the team clinching the Essex Senior Cup trophy in the 2009/10 season.
In December 1961 the U’s recorded their biggest win, with the team rolling over Bradford City 9-1 in the Fourth Division. Colchester United repeated the success 44 years later as they hammered Leamington 9-1 in the FA Cup round 1.
