Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Saturday’s League Two game at Alexandra Stadium sees Crewe Alexandra and Mansfield Town go head to head in the opening match of the season. The Railwaymen finished the last league campaign in 13th position and, no doubt, they are eyeing a top-table finish this time out. New recruits Shillow Tracey, Ryan Cooney, and Mickey Demetriou are widely expected to make the impact for the team.
The Yellows, on the other hand, have won each of their last three pre-season games, with the team beating all Hearts (3-1), Long Eaton (1-0) and Oldham (3-0) and it is no surprise the odds for away triumph have been dropping. Since Mansfield chiefs managed to keep hold of key attackers Jordan Bowery and Lucas-Jordan Akins in the summer transfer window, we are tempted to put our money on the visiting side. In their last meeting at the venue the Yellows defeated the Railwaymen 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Jordan Bowery):
Born in Nottingham, England, on July 2, 1991, Jordan Bowery is a professional footballer who plays for Mansfield Town. Bowery played for a number of English clubs, but we should mentioned the notable ones only.
The Mansfield No. 9 was a part of the likes of Aston Villa, Bradford City, Rotherham United, and Crewe Alexandra in the past. Jordan Bowery joined the Yellows in the summer of 2020, signing for the club on a free transfer. He made his Mansfield Town debut in the League two in a goalless draw with Tranmere Rovers on September 12, 2020.
Bowery scored his first goal for the Yellows in a 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient on September 19, 2020. Centre-forward is the position that suits him the most, but he is used as both left and right winger as well. His preferred foot is right. Jordan Bowery has never played for the England national team.
Highlighted Team (Crewe):
Crewe Aleandra are a professional football club that welcome their rivals at Gresty Road. The stadium was built in 1906, and it can hold up to 10,153 spectators. Founded back in 1877, Crewe Alexandra play their home games in red shirts and white shorts, while yellow is the dominant colour of their away kit.
The Railwaymen played their first game against North Staffs in 1877, with the two teams sharing the spoils (1-1) at Alexandra Recreation Ground. Nowadays, Crewe compete in the League 2 where they take on their main rivals Port Vale. In 2014 a match between the two sides resulted in violence and arrests. The likes of Wrexham, Macclesfield Town, Shrewsbury Town, and Stoke City are considered the club’s rivals as well.
In 2013 Crewe Alexandra clinched the Football League Trophy as they defeated Southend United 2-0 in the title game at Wembley Stadium. Goals from Max Clayton and Luke Murphy helped the Railwaymen clinch their first and only Football League Trophy.
