Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Following a 1-1 draw with Colchester United, Salford City will look to return to winning ways in the League Two when they take on Gillingham on Saturday afternoon. The Lions have been having their ups and downs of late, with the team beating Barrow, losing to Mansfield, while sharing the spoils with Colchester. Conor McAleny is pushing for a recall to the starting eleven, with Callum Hendry dropping to the bench.
The Gills, on the other hand, aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wrexham. Stephen Clemence’s troops are eager to climb to the playoffs berth and given Salford’s shaky defence, we predict that the visitors are going to pick up all three points from the match. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team ahead of the trip to Greater Manchester, which is yet another reason why we are going to bet on Stephen Clemence’s charges.
Highlighted Player (Conor McAleny):
Conor McAleny is a product of Everton youth academy, joining the club from Merseyside in 2003 at the age of 11. Despite the fact that his main position is centre-forward, McAleny is used as both second striker and left winger as well. McAleny did spend his youth career at Goodison Park, but it has to be noted that he made no more than two appearances for the Toffees at senior level.
The English attacker, who was born in Whiston on August 12, 1992, made his first-team debut in a 1-0 Premier League loss to Arsenal on December, 2011. Conor McAleny played for the likes of Scunthorpe United, Brentford, Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic and Oxford United before signing a deal with Fleetwood Town.
The right-footed striker spent the second half of the 2018/2019 season on loan at Kilmarnock, scoring 3 goals in 11 appearances for the club in the Scottish Premier League.
Highlighted Team (Gillingham):
Founded back in 1893, Gillingham FC are an English club that compete in the League One. The Gills are well known for their blue shirts with black stripes, but they wear white shirts with a little yellow and blue, and yellow shirts when playing on the travels.
Priestfield Stadium is the club’s home ground, with the venue holding up to 11,582 spectators. Gillingham City have been playing at the stadium since the club’s foundation. Speaking of the club’s main rivals, over the years the Gills have built up a rivalry to Swindon Town. However, it has to be noted that Swindon fans do not consider Gillingham their biggest rivals.
Former goalkeeper Roy Hillyard is the Gillingham City player with the most appearances. The English shot-stopper played for Gillingham City from 1974 to 1991, making 655 appearances for the club. Brian Yeo is the team’s all-time top scorer, netting 149 goals in 387 appearances for the club from 1963 to 1975.
