Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Lille will look to move closer to the Europa League berth when they host Troyes to their Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Matchday 19. Lille head into the match following back-to-back draws with Reims and Brest, but they are seen as favourites to beat Troyes in front of home fans. All Jonas Martin, Jose Fonte, Jonathan Bamba, and Gabriel Gudmundsson have been struggling with injuries of late.
Meanwhile, the visitors failed to impress in a 2-0 loss to Olympique Marseille. Patrick Kisnorbo’s men obviously struggle at the back, and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Lille’s party at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Both Lucien Agoume and Karim Azamoum are sidelined with injuries, while Florian Tardieu is pushing for a start. When the two teams met in the Coupe de France earlier in January Lille defeated Troyes 2-0, which is yet another reason why home win should be considered.
Highlighted Player (Jonas Martin):
Born in Besancon on April 9, 1990, Jonas Martin is a French footballer who plays for Strasbourg as a midfielder. Jonas Martin started his youth career at Rigny and after spending four years at the club (1997-2000) he moved to Nimes Olympique in 2000.
Four years later the playmaker joined Montpellier and he made 92 appearances for La Paillade. Martin played 64 games for Montpellier II as well and he spent the 2011/2012 season on loan at Amiens. In the summer of 2016 the French player signed a three-year contract with La Liga team Real Betis and at the end of the season he returned to France, joining Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg.
His main position is central midfielder, but he is capable of playing as both defensive midfielder and attacking midfielder as well. Jonas Martin has one cap for France U19 team, but he has yet to make his debut for the senior team. His contract with Strasbourg expires on June 30, 2020.
Highlighted Team (Troyes):
Founded in 1986, Troyes are considered one of the youngest clubs in French Ligue 1. Troyes returned to the top flight at the end of the 2016/2017 season, with the team finishing the regular season in third place in the Ligue 2 standings. Jean Louis Garcia’s men proved their worth in the promotion play-offs, with the team beating Lorient in the two-legged tie.
Troyes are well known for their blue shirts, but they wear white when playing on the travels. Stade de l’Aube is the club’s home ground and the stadium can hold up to 20.400 spectators. The venue was built in 1924, but it was renovated on two occasions (1956, 2004). The club have yet to win the Ligue 1 trophy, but in 1956 they made it to the French Cup final.
Troyes faced Sedan in the title game and they were totally outplayed by Louis Dugauguez’s troops (3-1) at Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir. Roger Courtois’ team were three goals down after 57 minutes, but five minutes later Fernand De Vlaeminck scored a consolation goal for the Stade de l’Aube outfit.
