Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Both Reims and Bordeaux will be with guards down when the take on each other at Stade Auguste-Delaune on Matchday 38. Reims have already secured the Ligue 1 survival, meaning that they head into the last game of the season with the lack of motivation. All Berisha, Diouf, and Lopy are out of contention with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the home team.
Les Girondins, on the other hand, quickly bounced back from a 3-0 loss to Nantes with the team beating Lens at home with the same outcome. Bordeaux managed to avoid relegation as well, and seeing that they have been playing some high-scoring games of late, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. Mexer is banned for the visitors, Bakwa remains quarantined, while all Baysse, Kalu, Ben Arfa, Koscielny, and Otavio are sidelined with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Moussa Doumbia):
A Malian midfielder Moussa Doumbia has been with Russian side FK Rostov since 2014. The 22-year-old powerful midfielder started his career with Real Bamako in 2012. Doumbia spent two years playing for the Scorpions in the Malien Premiere Division, the top rank in the country. Russian side recognised his talent and made a transfer in 2014 tying Moussa Doumbia on a four-year deal.
During two seasons with Russian Premier League outfit, Doumbia was involved in 31 league matches. In 2015-16 season he contributed to his club’s runners-up finish with two goals of his own. Full-time Mali international made his national team debut in 2014 in a 3-1 victory over China in Shenzen.
His most recent international appearances occurred in September during an empathic 5-2 win over Benin in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Doumbia went on to score his team’s fifth goal with eleven minutes on the clock rounding off an impressive performance.
Highlighted Team (Bordeaux):
Founded in 1881, Bordeaux are regarded as one of the oldest clubs in France. Les Girondins won their first Ligue 1 trophy in 1950 and 59 years later (2008/2009) they lifted their sixth domestic trophy.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Bordeaux did remarkably well to make it to the Champions League semi-finals in 1985, but despite recording a 2-0 win over star-studded Juventus in the return leg, the French club eventually failed to book their place in the final of the elite competition.
Famous French footballers Alain Giresse and Jean Tigana were part of the team back then and it has to be noted that Giresse is the player who made the most appearances for les Girondins (587). During the nineties Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry and Bixente Lizarazu played for Bordeaux and, taking everything into account, it is no surprise they are considered one of the most famous French clubs.
Nowadays Les Girondins welcome their rivals at Matmut Atlantique, the stadium which was opened in 2015 and they used to play at Stade Chaban-Delmas in the past.
