Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Stade Auguste-Delaune will host Wednesday’s postponed fixture between Reims and Olympique Marseille. Les Rouges et Blancs have been struggling in the second half of the season and, as a result, they missed out on a spot in European competitions. As the hosts head into the midweek clash with the lack of motivation, home win should not be considered. Marshall Munetsi should recover in time to face OM, while all Atangana Edoa, Joseph Okumu, Maxime Busi, and Mohammed Daramy remain on the sidelines with injuries.
Olympique Marseille, on the other hand, are eager to keep their Conference League hopes alive. As Reims have nothing to play for in Wednesday’s encounter, we are tempted to place our bets on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Co. this time out. Leonardo Balerdi is back from suspension, while all Valentin Rongier, Bilal Nadir, and Pedro Ruiz remain on the sidelines with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang):
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the most famous Gabonese player and he is the first footballer from Gabon to appear in Bundesliga. Aubameyang played for the likes of Dijon, Lille, Monaco and St. Etienne in the past before joining Borussia Dortmund on July, 2013. The pacey attacker signed a five-year contract with the Millionaires and he has been producing outstanding performances with the Signal-Iduna-Park outfit ever since.
Aubameyang impressed in the 2015–16 Bundesliga, scoring 25 goals in 31 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, but that did not help Thomas Tuchel’s men win the domestic trophy. Speaking of his international career, the 187-cm-tall striker made his Gabon debut on 25 March, 2009 and he scored his first goal for the national team in a 3-2 win over Morocco.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped Gabon make it to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. It has to be noted, though, that he played for France U-21 team in the past. Aubameyang was born in Laval, France on 18 June, 1989.
Highlighted Team (Reims):
Reims are a French football club founded in 1931. Reims welcome their rivals at Stade Auguste Delaune, which can hold up to 21,684 people. Believe it or not, Reims won six Ligue 1 titles (1948/1949, 1952/1953, 1954/1955, 1957/1958, 1959/1960, 1961/1962). To make things even better for the fans, Reims participated in the European Cup final on two occasions.
In 1956 they faced Real Madrid in the title game and despite taking the lead after six minutes, the French side eventually suffered a 4-3 loss to los Blancos at Parc des Princes. Three years later Reims had a chance to get their revenge on Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants once again won the European Cup, with Mateos and Di Stefano finding the net in the 2-0 victory over Albert Batteux.
The club’s most notable footballer is Just Fontaine, who scored 13 goals for France at the 1958 FIFA World Cup finals. Reims’ home colours are red and white, with the team wearing white when playing on the road.
