Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
PSG will be aiming to keep their 100% record in the new Ligue 1 campaign intact when they take on Reims at Stade Auguste-Delaune on Sunday evening. Argentina superstar Leo Messi is ready for his Ligue 1 debut, and, no doubt, the former Barca attacker is going to make life difficult for the opposition defenders. Since Neymar is expected to make his season debut this weekend as well, anything but a routine away win would be a major surprise.
The likes of Sergio Ramos, Juan Bernat, Layvin Kurzawa, Pablo Sarabia, and Mauro Icardi are all out of contention through injuries. Reims, on the other hand, have drawn each of their first three league fixtures, but PSG are likely to pose a much bigger threat for the hosts than their previous rivals. In their last meeting in the French top flight les Parisiens outclassed Les Rouges et Blancs 4-0, and we predict that the history is going to repeat itself. Reims boss Oscar Garcia will watch the game from the stands due to suspension.
Highlighted Player (Moussa Doumbia):
A Malian midfielder Moussa Doumbia has been with Russian side FK Rostov since 2014. The 22-year-old powerful midfielder started his career with Real Bamako in 2012. Doumbia spent two years playing for the Scorpions in the Malien Premiere Division, the top rank in the country. Russian side recognised his talent and made a transfer in 2014 tying Moussa Doumbia on a four-year deal.
During two seasons with Russian Premier League outfit, Doumbia was involved in 31 league matches. In 2015-16 season he contributed to his club’s runners-up finish with two goals of his own. Full-time Mali international made his national team debut in 2014 in a 3-1 victory over China in Shenzen.
His most recent international appearances occurred in September during an empathic 5-2 win over Benin in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Doumbia went on to score his team’s fifth goal with eleven minutes on the clock rounding off an impressive performance.
Highlighted Team (PSG):
Formed by the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain in 1970, Paris Saint-Germain or as they call it PSG is the most successful club in French football with 31 domestic titles to their name. Having won six Ligue 1 title so far, a record ten Coupes de France, a record six Coupes de la Ligue, six Trophees des Champions and one Ligue 2 title, PSG are also one of only two French clubs to ever win a European title.
Les Parisiens were crowned UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup champions back in 1995-96, while their last European trophy was the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Beginning of the new millennium was particularly hard for the celebrated club who flirted with relegation in 2000s before they were bought by the Quatar Sports Investments group in 2011 when the rebirth of the Paris Saint-Germain as we know it today began.
Following heavy squad investments and team boosting, PSG won their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years with Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic almost singlehandedly leading his side towards the trophy with 30 goals. Having established domestic dominance, PSG now set their sights on winning the Champions League which remains an elusive dream for the club from Paris.
