Our prediction for this MLS match:
Colorado Rapids and Philadelphia Union face each other at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in what is expected to be a close encounter. Colorado aim to build on a 3-1 win over Los Angeles Galaxy and they are likely to adopt yet another attack-minded approach. Jonathan Lewis is pushing for a start, while all Rodriguez, Bombito, Travis, and Keita remain on the sidelines with injuries.
The U’s, on the other hand, aim to build on back-to-back wins over Toronto and New York Red Bulls. Philadelphia, though, have been anything but impressive on the road at the start of the season, which is probably the main reason why we are going to bet on draw. Midfielder Jose Martinez is a major doubt and he will be assessed ahead of the kick-off. In their last meeting in the Major League Soccer Philadelphia crushed Colorado 6-0, but a close encounter is on the cards this time out.
Highlighted Player (Diego Rubio):
Diego Rubio is a Chilean attacker who signed his first professional deal with Colo-Colo. Rubio, though, made only eight league appearances (scoring three goals) for the Chilean outfit and in 2011 he moved to Europe, signing a deal with Primeira Liga team Sporting Lisbon. After playing only 11 league matches for the Lions, the 179-cm tall striker joined Spanish club Valladolid at the age of 22.
It has to be noted that during his spell with Sporting Lisbon he was loaned to the likes of Pandurii Targu Kiu and Sandnes Ulf. On September 1, 2016 Diego Rubio signed a permanent teal with Sporting Kansas City and he has been playing for the MLS club ever since.
Rubio was born on May 15, 1993 in Santiago, the capital of Chile, and he made his debut for the Chilean national football team in June, 2011 against Paraguay. His contract with Sporting Kansas City expires on June 30, 2017.
Highlighted Team (Philadelphia Union):
Based in Chester, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Union is an American soccer club that compete in Major League Soccer. The U have been participating in MLS since 2010, but they have yet to win the domestic trophy. Philadelphia welcome their opponents at Talen Energy Stadium, the venue that was opened on June 27, 2010 and current capacity of the stadium is 18.500.
The U made it to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final on two occasions (2014, 2015), but they were beaten by Seattle Sounders and Sporting Kansas City respectively in the title games. The likes of D.C. United and New York Red Bulls are regarded as the club’s fiercest rivals, but they share a rivalry with Seattle Sounders as well.
Philadelphia’s colors are navy blue and gold, but they wear white shirts and white socks when playing on the road. USA international Freddy Adu is one of the most notable footballers who player for the U in the past. The former Benfica man scored seven goals in 37 appearances for Philadelphia Union in MLS.
