Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Following a 2-0 win over Grenada, El Salvador will be looking to keep their 100% record in the 2022 WC qualifiers intact when they take on Montserrat at Stadion Ergilio Hato. La Selecta produced a fine display in their opener, and, as a result, bookies see them as favourites to win the second group game. Deportivo attacker David Antonio Rugamas, who found the net in the victory over Granada, is widely expected to lead the line for the visitors.
You should know that El Salvador are eyeing their fourth consecutive win over Montserrat in all competitions. The Emerald Boys, on the other hand, played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Antigua and Barbuda in their opener, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry against La Selecta. Since El Salvador do not suit Montserrat, we believe that punters can find value in betting on the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Andres Flores):
Nicknamed Ruso, Andres Flores joined River Plate youth academy in 2006. Flores played for River Plate’s Reserves from 2006 to 2008 and he was producing terrific displays with los Millonarios. However, he began his professional career in his homeland club Isidro Metapan, scoring ten goals in 95 appearances for the Salvadorian outfit. In 2012 he signed a loan deal with Danish club Viborg, but he played only one game for the Greens.
Andres Flores was then sent on a loan to New York Cosmos and after making eight appearances for the MCU Park outfit, he signed a permanent contract with the club in 2015. The El Salvador midfielder, who is capable of playing as a striker as well, made his debut for New York Cosmos on August 2, 2014 in a 1-0 loss to Carolina RailHawks.
Speaking of his international career, Andres Flores received his first call-up for the El Salvador national football team in March, 2008 in a friendly against Trinidad & Tobago.
Highlighted Team (El Salvador):
El Salvador are a national football team that play their home games at Estadio Cuscatlan. La Azul y Blanco turned down an invitation from Brazil to take part in the 1950 World Cup finals, but in 1970 they made it to the finals of the showpiece tournament in Mexico 20 years later.
They participated at the 1982 World Cup finals as well, but they have yet to advance the first round of the finals competition. El Salvador hosted the first CONCACAF Championship, but they failed to win the trophy, with the team suffering a loss to Costa Rica in the title game. Speaking of the Central American and Carribean Games, la Selecta won the trophy on two occasions (1954, 2002) and in 1968 they booked their place at the Olympic Games in Mexico.
The likes of Magico Gonzales, Rodolfo Zelaya, Arturo Alvarez, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Ronald Cerritos, Raul Diaz Arce, Alexander Larin, Eliseo Quintanilla, Jaime Alas and Alfredo Pacheco are some of the notable footballers who played for El Salvador.
