Our prediction for this Nations League match:
After suffering a 2-1 loss to Northern Ireland, Kosovo will look to finish their Nations League campaign in style when they take on Cyprus on Tuesday. The Kosovars continue to rely on Mallorca attacker Vedat Muriqi, who scored the opener in the Windsor Park defeat, while important winger Milot Rashica should keep his place in the starting XI.
The Cypriotes, on the other hand, aim to overtake Northern Ireland in third place in Group 2, but given their poor away record in the Nations League, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Alain Giresse’s charges. A man to keep an eye on in the away team will be Sporting Kansas City forward Marinos Tzionis, who scored the winner against Greece on Saturday. Earlier in the process Kosovo defeated Cyprus 2-0 at AEK Arena in Larnaca.
Highlighted Player (Bersant Celina):
After starting his youth career at Stromsgodset, Bersant Celina moved to Manchester City youth academy in 2012. Two years later the midfielder, who was born in FR Yugoslavia on September 9, 1996, signed a three-year professional contract with the Citizens, but he made no more than one appearance for the big-spending club in the Premier League.
Bersant Celina came as a substitute for David Silva in a 3-1 home loss to Leicester City at Etihad Stadium on February 6, 2016. Celina played for the likes of Twente and Ipswich Town before joining Swansea City for a fee of £3 million.
Speaking of his international career, the 181-cm tall midfielder played for Norway U15, U16, U17 and U21 teams, but he represents Kosovo senior team on the international stage. Bersant Celina made his debut for Kosovo in September 2014 against Oman. His main position is attacking midfield, but he is used as a winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Cyprus):
Cyprus’ first match took place back in July, 1949, only one year after they became a member of FIFA. The Cypriotes played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Maccabi Tel Aviv and seven days later they played their first international game. Cyprus suffered a 3-1 loss to Israel in Tel Aviv back then and in November, 1960 they had their first official match as an independent country.
The Cyprus national football team shared the spoils with Israel in the 1962 World Cup qualifier and three years later they recorded their first international win (3-1 over Greece). Cyprus suffered their biggest loss on May 21, 1969, with the team losing to West Germany 12-0 and in 2000 they hammered Andorra 5-0 which is considered the team’s biggest win.
The Cypriotes have yet to qualify for the finals of the FIFA World Cup or the European Championship, but their victory over Bosnia in Zenica in the Euro 2016 qualifiers will be remembered. GSP Stadium in Nicosia is considered the national team’s home ground.
