Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Buoyed by a 2-1 win over PSV, Ajax will look to retain top position in the Eredivisie table when they welcome Heracles to their Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday. The Amsterdammers are on a four-game winning run in the national championship, but head coach Erik ten Hag must warn his men against complacency. Ivory Coast attacker Sebastien Haller is back from international duty, while returnee Brian Brobbey misses out with injury.
Heracles, on the other hand, are undefeated in the previous four league fixtures, but Ajax will pose a much bigger threat for the visitors than their previous rivals. David faces Goliath in Amsterdam, and anything but a routine home win would be a major surprise. Rai Vloet is sidelined with injury for the visiting side, while Justin Hoogma has been tested positive for coronavirus. In their last meeting at Johan Cruijff Arena Ajax crushed Heracles 5-0.
Highlighted Player (Davy Klaassen):
Davy Klaassen is a product of Ajax’s youth academy. He played for the Amsterdammers at youth level from 2004 to 2012 and he made his debut for the senior team against Olympique Lyon in the Champions League group stages. Klaassen was born on 22 February, 1993 in Hilversum, Netherlands and he plays as an attacking midfielder.
He is capable of playing as a secondary striker as well and it has to be noted that the Dutch footballer scored 13 goals in 31 league appearances for Ajax in the 2015/2016 Eredivisie campaign. Klaassen has four caps for Netherlands U21 team and he made his debut for the first team on 5 March, 2014 in a friendly against France.
The Dutch midfielder scored his first goal for the national team against Spain on 31 March, 2015 and, no doubt, that was one of the brightest moments of his career. The Ajax footballer won his third Eredivisie trophy with the Amsterdammers in the 2013/2014 campaign.
Highlighted Team (Heracles):
Heracles is a professional Dutch club based in Almelo. The club was formed back in May 1903 and named after Heracles, the demigod son of Zeus. From 1974 to 1998 the club played under the name of SC Heracles ’74. The Heraclieden’s home colours are black and white, while blue is the dominant colour of their away shirt.
Twente are considered one of the club’s main rivals in the Netherlands. Speaking of the club’s achievements, it has to be noted that Heracles have won two Eredivisie trophies (1926/27, 1940/41). In the 2011/12 season they made it to the Dutch Cup final. Heracles faced PSV in the title game, with the Dutch giants proving to be a big catch for the underdogs.
PSV won the game 3-0. In the 2016/17 season Heracles participated in the Europa League, with the team suffering elimination to Arouca in the third qualifying round. Everton is leading the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 77 goals.
