Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
AZ Alkmaar play host to Fortuna Sittard at their AFAS Stadion in a postponed Eredivisie game. AZ aim to put an end to their three-game winless run in the Dutch top flight, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at the Fortunezen. Pascal Jansen should have a full squad to choose from for Thursday’s clash, and it is no wonder the reputable bookies see De Kaasboeren as hot favourites.
Fortuna Sittard, on the other hand, suffered yet another dip in form, and given their four-game losing run in the national championship, we are tempted to put our money on AZ Alkmaar, who aim to move closer to the Conference League berth. To make things even worse for the visiting side, midfielder Roel Janssen misses out through suspension as he was sent off in a 4-1 loss to Groningen.
Highlighted Player (Steven Berghuis):
Born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands on December 19, 1991, Steven Berghuis is a Dutch winger who plays for Ajax in the Eredivisie. Berghuis played for the likes of Vitesse/AGOVV, WSV Apeldoorn, and Go Ahead Eagles during his youth career before joining Twente in 2009.
The 183-cm-tall footballer continued playing for the Reds at senior level. After ending his loan spell with VVV-Venlo, Steven Berghuis joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2012, and three years later signed a deal with the Premier League club Watford. After making no more than nine appearances in the English top flight, Berghuis moved to Feyenoord in August 2016, and he has been playing De club aan de Maas ever since.
His main position is right winger, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both left winger and attacking midfielder as well. He made his Netherlands debut on May 27, 2016 in a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Highlighted Team (Willem II):
Based in Tilburg, Netherlands, Willem II is a professional football club that competes in the Eredivisie. The Tricolores were founded back in August 1896 under the name of Tilburgia, but the club’s first big success came in the 1915/16 season when they won the national championship.
Willem II repeated the success in the 1951/52 Eredivisie campaign, with the team winning their third domestic trophy three years later. When it comes to KNVB Cup, the Tricolores have won it on two occasions (1943/44, 1962/63). Willem II are well known for their white shirts with red and blue strips, while their away kit is mainly mint with dark navy accents.
The Tricolores play home matches at Koning Willem II Stadion, the venue with the capacity of 14,700 spectators. Willem II have fierce rivals in Nac Breda, as the cities of Breda and Tilburg are only 20 kilometers apart. Former Barcelona and Arsenal star Marc Overmars is one of the most notable footballers who played for the club.
