Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Saturday’s football game at AFAS Stadion pits together AZ Alkmaar and Zwolle, the two teams with entirely different ambitions in the 2021/2022 Eredivisie campaign. AZ aim to represent the Netherlands in European competitions, while Zwolle’s main goal is to secure yet another elite division survival. The hosts head into the match following a 2-0 loss to Groningen, and, no doubt, they are desperate to get back on course.
Despite failing to impress in the last league match, Greece international Vangelis Pavlidis should continue to lead the line for the hosts. Ernest Poku is a major doubt, and he will be assessed ahead of the kick-off. As for the visiting team, both Pelle Clement and Sai van Vermeskerken face race against clock to be fit for the match. Anyhow, home win should be considered as AZ Alkmaar are more of a team than Zwolle, who will find it hard to survive in the Eredivisie.
Highlighted Player (Jordy Clasie):
Jordy Clasie is a product of the Feyenoord youth academy who plays for AZ Alkmaar as a midfielder. His main position is defensive midfield, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both central midfielder and centre-back as well.
Clasie played for the likes of Feyenoord, Excelsior (loan), Southampton, and Club Brugge (loan) before returning to Rotterdam. After ending his second spell with Feyenoord, the Dutch footballer joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2019. He made his AZ debut in the Eredivisie on August 4, 2019 in a 4-0 win over Fortuna Sittard.
Jordie Clasie has 12 caps with the Netherlands U21 team, and he made his senior debut in a 1-1 draw with Italy on February 6, 2013. Thanks to his elegant style of play, Clasie has earned the nickname of “Dutch Xavi”. The AZ Alkmaar midfielder was born in Haarlem, Netherlands on June 27, 1991.
Highlighted Team (Zwolle):
Founded on June 12, 1910, PEC Zwolle is a Dutch football club which competes in the Eredivisie. Zwolle have yet to win the national championship, but they did remarkably well to lift the Dutch Cup trophy in 2014. Ron Jans’s troops impressed in the title game, with the team rolling over Dutch giants Ajax 5-1.
The Blauwingers play their home games at MACPARK Stadion, the venue with the capacity of 14,000 people. The multi-use stadium was opened on August 29, 2009. Zwolle’s home kit is blue and white, while the colour of their away jersey is green and white. In the 2014/15 season the Blauwingers represented the Netherlands in the Europa League, with the team losing to Sparta Prague in the play-off round.
The likes of Henk Timmer (237), Johan Hansma (231), Bert Konterman (219), Arne Slot (208), and Jasper Drost (182) are the players with the most league appearances for the club. Go Ahead Eagles are considered the club’s biggest rivals as both teams are located at the river Ijssel.
