Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
A place in the Eredivisie will be at stake when Excelsior and Den Haag face each other in a highly-anticipated double-header. Excelsior booked their place in the final thanks to brilliant back-to-back wins over Heracles, and it is no wonder the odds for home triumph have been dropping. A man to watch in the home team will be talented attacker Thijs Dallinga, who scored two goals in the two-legged tie with Heracles, while all Azzaoui, Blaswich, Oubella, Sierhuis, and Kiomourtzoglou should miss the first leg with injuries.
Den Haag, on the other hand, faced no difficulties in back-to-back wins over Eindhoven. Since De Ooievaars have been impressive in front of goal of late as well, we are tempted to put our money on over 2.5 goals. As for the visiting side, all Elia, Kishna, and Koopmans are likely to miss the game with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Eljero Elia):
Eljero Elia began his senior career at ADO Den Haag. The pacey winger scored six goals in 59 league appearances for the club and in 2007 he moved to fellow Eredivisie team Twente. Elia, who was born on 13 February, 1987 in Voorburg, spent two years at Twente and on 5 July, 2009 he moved to Germany, signing a five-year deal with Hamburg for a fee of €8.5 million.
The Dutch winger made his Hamburg debut against Freiburg on 8 August, 2009 and he scored his first goal for the club in a 4-2 victory over Wolfsburg on 23 August. Elia played for Italian giants Juventus in the 2011/2012 season, but he made no more than four league appearances for the club. In the summer of 2012 he returned to Germany, signing a deal with Werder Bremen and he played for die Werderaner between 2012 and 2015.
Speaking of his international career, Elia represented Netherlands at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and he won the silver medal with the Oranje as they were beaten by Spain in the title game.
Highlighted Team (Den Haag):
Ado Den Haag is a professional Dutch club based in Hague, the seat of the Netherlands government. De Ooievaars (The Storks) welcome their rivals at Cars Jeans Stadion, which can hold up to 15,000 spectators. Founded back in February, 1905, Den Haag are well known for their yellow shirts with green stripes, while their away kit is mainly sky blue.
De Ooievaars were the dominant force in the Netherlands Football League Championship during the World War II, with the team winning two domestic trophies (1941/42, and 1942/43). Den Haag have two KNVB Cup titles as well as they won the Dutch Cup in both 1967/68 and 1974/75 seasons. Legendary Netherlands tactician Dick Advocaat played for Den Haag on two occasions.
He scored seven goals in 147 league appearances from 1966 to 1973, and he returned to the club in 1979. Ajax and Feyenoord are considered the club’s biggest rivals. The rivalry between the clubs has become big due to hooligan fights before and after matches.
