Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Ajax will be aiming to extend their winning run to three games when they take on Heracles on Matchday 9. The Amsterdammers are obviously determined to make amends for the unsuccessful 2023/2024 Eredivisie campaign and they must be high on spirits following back-to-back wins over RKC (2-0) and Groningen (3-1). Fit-again striker Wout Weghorst is pushing for a start, while Sunday’s clash comes too early for star player Steven Berghuis, who is linked with a move to Trabzonspor at the end of the season.
The hosts, on the other hand, produced an under-par performance in a 4-1 loss to Go Ahead Eagles, which is yet another reason why we are going to place our bets on the in-form visitors. Sem Scheperman remains on the sidelines with injury for the home side, while fellow midfielder Stijn Bultman is a major doubt. In their last encounter in Almelo Ajax outplayed Heracles 4-2.
Highlighted Player (Steven Berghuis):
Born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands on December 19, 1991, Steven Berghuis is a Dutch winger who plays for Ajax in the Eredivisie. Berghuis played for the likes of Vitesse/AGOVV, WSV Apeldoorn, and Go Ahead Eagles during his youth career before joining Twente in 2009.
The 183-cm-tall footballer continued playing for the Reds at senior level. After ending his loan spell with VVV-Venlo, Steven Berghuis joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2012, and three years later signed a deal with the Premier League club Watford. After making no more than nine appearances in the English top flight, Berghuis moved to Feyenoord in August 2016, and he has been playing De club aan de Maas ever since.
His main position is right winger, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both left winger and attacking midfielder as well. He made his Netherlands debut on May 27, 2016 in a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Highlighted Team (Heracles):
Heracles is a professional Dutch club based in Almelo. The club was formed back in May 1903 and named after Heracles, the demigod son of Zeus. From 1974 to 1998 the club played under the name of SC Heracles ’74. The Heraclieden’s home colours are black and white, while blue is the dominant colour of their away shirt.
Twente are considered one of the club’s main rivals in the Netherlands. Speaking of the club’s achievements, it has to be noted that Heracles have won two Eredivisie trophies (1926/27, 1940/41). In the 2011/12 season they made it to the Dutch Cup final. Heracles faced PSV in the title game, with the Dutch giants proving to be a big catch for the underdogs.
PSV won the game 3-0. In the 2016/17 season Heracles participated in the Europa League, with the team suffering elimination to Arouca in the third qualifying round. Everton is leading the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 77 goals.
