Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel will host Saturday’s Eredivisie game between Sparta Rotterdam and Vitesse, the two teams who sit in the opposite halves of the table. Sparta are eager to escape the relegation zone, while Vitesse aim to move closer to the Champions League berth. The Rotterdammers do not seem to be at their sharpest ahead of Matchday 17, with the team collecting only one point in total from the previous four league fixtures.
As a result, the bookies see the relegation strugglers as underdogs in Saturday’s clash. Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is rated doubtful for the hosts. The Vitas, on the other hand, are eyeing their third consecutive league win, and given their displays in back-to-back triumphs over Cambuur (6-1) and Heracles (2-1), we believe that there is a big value in betting on the visiting team. A man to watch in the away side will be Belgium attacker Lois Openda, who scored a brace at the weekend.
Highlighted Player (Bryan Smeets):
Bryan Smeets is a product of MVV Maastricht football academy who plays for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie. Smeets scored 23 goals in 144 league appearances for MVV before joining De Graafschap in 2015.
After his spell with the Superboeren, the midfielder moved to Cambuur in the 2017/18 season. The following season he joined Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv where he scored 12 goals in 37 appearances in the elite division. Bryan Smeets then decided to return to Netherlands as he joined Sparta Rotterdam in the 2019/20 season. He scored his first goal with De Kasteelheren in a 4-0 win over RKS Waalwijk on September 21, 2019.
His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is used as both central midfielder and right winger as well. Bryan Smeets has a contract with Sparta Rotterdam which should expire on June 30, 2021. He is a two-footed player.
Highlighted Team (Vitesse):
Nicknamed Vitas, the proud of Gelderland, Vitesse are a Dutch football club based in Arnhem. Vitesse compete in the Dutch Eredivisie and they have yet to win the national championship. However, they finished as runners-up in the Dutch elite division on five occasions (1897–98, 1902–03, 1912–13, 1913–14, 1914–15), while clinching third place in the standings in the 1997/1998 season.
Vitesse did remarkably well to win the 2016/2017 Dutch Cup title, with the team beating AZ Alkmaar in the final at De Kuip in Rotterdam. As a result, the Vitas booked their place in the Europa League group stages where they face the likes of Lazio, Nice and Zulte-Waregem.
Vitesse are well known for their yellow jerseys with black stripes, while the club’s away colour is black. GelreDome is the home ground of the Dutch team and the capacity of the venue is 21.248. It has to be noted that famous Spanish footballer Albert Ferrer was in charge of the club in the 2010/2011 season.
