Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
After sharing the spoils with Sparta in Rotterdam on Matchday 26, Ajax will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Zwolle at MAC³PARK Stadion. The Amsterdammers showed character in their last league match, with the team coming from two goals behind to share the spoils with Sparta Rotterdam and, no doubt, goalscorers Chuba Akpom and Steven Bergwijn should be recalled to the starting XI. Even though both Ahmetcan Kaplan (suspension) and Brian Brobbey (hamstring injury) are out of contention, away win should be considered.
Johnny Jansen’s troops, on the other hand, have lost four of their last five league games and seeing that Ajax do not suit them, we are tempted to place our bets on the Dutch powerhouse. There are no fresh injury worries in the home team ahead of Sunday’s matinee, but fit-again forward Kaj de Rooij could sneak into the starting eleven.
Highlighted Player (Steven Bergwijn):
Steven Bergwin is a product of ASC Waterwijk football school, but in 2009 he was spotted by Ajax scouts. In 2011 he moved to PSG and he continued playing for the club’s reserve team at senior level. He made his debut with the senior team on May 20, 2015 in a 2-0 win over Heracles.
Over the years the Dutch footballer born in Amsterdam on October 8, 1997, has established himself as a first-team regular at PSV, earning a call-up for the national team as well. Steven Bergwijn made his Netherlands debut on October 12, 2018 in a 3-0 win over Germany. His main position is left winger, but he is used as both right winger and centre-forward as well.
His preferred foot is right and it has to be noted that his parents are of Suriname descent, he has a dual citizenship. Bergwijn scored 14 goals in 33 appearances for PSV in the 2018/2019 Eredivisie season.
Highlighted Team (Zwolle):
Founded on June 12, 1910, PEC Zwolle is a Dutch football club which competes in the Eredivisie. Zwolle have yet to win the national championship, but they did remarkably well to lift the Dutch Cup trophy in 2014. Ron Jans’s troops impressed in the title game, with the team rolling over Dutch giants Ajax 5-1.
The Blauwingers play their home games at MACPARK Stadion, the venue with the capacity of 14,000 people. The multi-use stadium was opened on August 29, 2009. Zwolle’s home kit is blue and white, while the colour of their away jersey is green and white. In the 2014/15 season the Blauwingers represented the Netherlands in the Europa League, with the team losing to Sparta Prague in the play-off round.
The likes of Henk Timmer (237), Johan Hansma (231), Bert Konterman (219), Arne Slot (208), and Jasper Drost (182) are the players with the most league appearances for the club. Go Ahead Eagles are considered the club’s biggest rivals as both teams are located at the river Ijssel.
