Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Zwolle will be aiming to make amends for a 4-2 loss to PSV when they take on Groningen in the last match of the season. The Blauwingers head into Sunday’s clash with the lack of motivation as they have already secured the Eredivisie survival, and given their three-game losing run, home win should not be considered. Teenage attacker Samir Lagsir, who scored his first Eredivisie goal in the midweek defeat, is pushing for a start, while Bertrams, Buitink, van Duinen and Wermeskerken remain in the recovery room.
Groningen, on the other hand, did well to hold AZ Alkmaar to a goalless draw on Thursday evening. The Green-White army booked their place in the Europa Conference League playoffs, and seeing that Danny Buijs could opt to mix the squad, share of spoils is on the cards at MAC³PARK Stadion. Both Gudmundsson and Shreck are out of contention for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Thomas Lam):
Thomas Lam is a footballer who can play as both centre back and defensive midfielder. Lam was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 18 December, 1993, but seeing that his mother is Finnish, he was eligible to play for the Finland national team.
After making 11 appearances for the Finland U21 team, he made his debut for the senior team on 9 June, 2015, in a friendly against Estonia. He started the game, but the Finns suffered a 2-0 loss to the Estonians in Turku. Speaking of his club career, Thomas Lam played for AZ Alkmaar between 2011 and 2014 and then he joined fellow Eredivisie side Zwolle.
The 188-cm-tall footballer scored four goals in 64 appearances for the club and in July 2016 he signed a contract with Nottingham Forest. Lam won the KVNB Cup with AZ Alkmaar in 2013 and he was named Promising Player of the Year in 2011. His agent is world-famous Mino Raiola and his contract with Forest expires on 30 June, 2018.
Highlighted Team (Groningen):
Groningen is a Dutch football clubs that competes in the Eredivisie. Founded on June 16, 1971, Groningen play home games at Euroborg. The venue was built by Ballas Nedam, Royal BAM Group and VolkerWessels, and it can hold up to 22,525 people.
The Trots van het Noorden (Pride of the North) are well known for their white home shirts with red stripes, while purple is the dominant colour of their away kit. Volendam are considered the club’s fiercest rivals, but they have a rivalry with Twente as well after the 1980s incidents between their fans. Groningen have yet to win the Eredivisie trophy, but they did well to go all the way in the Dutch Cup in the 2014/15 season.
The green and whites defeated Zwolle 2-0 in the title game. Speaking of their European success, it has to be noted that Groningen participated in the Europa League on two occasions. In the 2015/16 season the Trots van het Noorden booked their place in the group stages of the competition, but they failed to record a win in the process.
