Our prediction for this Portugal Primeira Liga match:
Benfica will look to keep their 100% record in the new Primeira Liga season intact when they host Boavista to their Estadio da Luz. The Eagles are determined to regain the domestic trophy, but they need to keep on making progress if they are to meet the goal. After playing out a goalless draw with Dynamo Kiev in their Champions League opener, Jorge Jesus’ men will surely give their best to return to winning ways this weekend.
Fit-again Switzerland attacker Haris Seferovic is pushing for a start, while Lucas Verissimo returns from the Champions League ban. Defender Andre Almeida is out of contention due to personal reasons. Boavista, on the other hand, are not regarded as good travelers, and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Benfica’s party in Lisbon. A man to watch in the away team will be summer signing Petar Musa, who opened his goal-scoring account in the 1-1 draw with Portimonense.
Highlighted Player (Jan Vertonghen):
After spending four years at Ajax, in 2006 Jan Vertonghen signed a loan deal with RKC Waalwijk. The left-footed defender spent one season at Mandemakers Stadion and he returned to Ajax for the 2007/2008 season. The highly rated footballer, who is capable of playing as both centre back and left back, signed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur on 8 July, 2012 and he has been playing for the Premier League outfit ever since.
The Belgian defender scored four goals for the Spurs in the 2012/2013 Premier League season and he made 34 league appearances for the White Hart Lane outfit back then. In the 2015/2016 season Jan Vertonghen and his teammates were producing brilliant displays with Tottenham, but the Spurs eventually finished the campaign in third place in the standings.
Speaking of his international career, Vertonghen made it to both World Cup (2014) and Euro (2016) quarter-finals with the Belgian national team. Jan was born on 24 April, 1987 and his shirt number is 5.
Highlighted Team (Boavista):
Founded on August 1, 1903, Boavista are a Portuguese club that welcome their rivals at Estadio do Bessa. The capacity of the venue is 28,263 and it was built back in 1911. As Panteras (The Panthers) are well known for their black and white shirts and white is the dominant colour of their away kit.
Famous Fellow city club Porto are considered Boavista’s main rivals and the two teams face each other in O Derby da Invicta and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two local rivals. A Panteras did well to win their first and only Primeira Liga trophy in the 2000/2001 season, with the team finishing the campaign only one point clear of Porto.
Boavista have five Taca de Portugal trophies (1974/75, 1975/76, 1978/79, 1991/92, 1996/97), with the team winning Supertaca de Portugal three times (1979, 1992, 1997). Jose Bosingwa, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Nuno Gomes are the notable footballers who played for Boavista in the past, to name just a few.
