Our prediction for this Portugal Primeira Liga match:
Estadio Municipal de Portimao will host Friday’s football match between Portimonense and Vitoria Guimaraes. Portimonense produced their best performance of the season at the weekend, with the team rolling over Nacional 5-1 on the road. Paulo Sergio’s troops quickly bounced back from a 2-1 defeat to Porto, with the team regaining a much-needed confidence. Portimonense are four points clear of the relegation zone, but, no doubt, they would be happy with one point from Friday’s match.
Vitoria Guimaraes, on the other hand, aim to put an end to their four-match losing run in the Primeira Liga. Os Vimaranenses aim to keep their Europa League hopes alive, but beating Portimonense on the road is easier said than done. A close encounter is on the cards at Estadio Municipal de Portimao, and we are tempted to put our money on draw. Pepelu returns from suspension for the visitors, while Ewerton is back for the hosts.
Highlighted Player (Lucas Possignolo ):
Lucas Possignolo is a Brazilian footballer who started his youth career at Sao Paulo, but he did not make his senior debut with the Tricolor. Possignolo moved to Portimonense on loan in 2014, and after scoring four goals in 57 appearances in the league, he signed a permanent deal with the Primeira Liga club in 2017.
The Brazilian defender made his debut in the Portuguese top flight on August 17, 2017, in a 2-1 home win over Boavista. Possignolo scored his first goal in the Primeira Liga in a 5-1 home defeat to Porto on February 25, 2018. His primary position at Portimonense is a centre-back, and his preferred foot is right.
Lucas Possignolo was born in Piracicaba, Brazil, on May 11, 1994. The 185-cm-tall defender, who wears the number 3 jersey at Portimonense, joined Sao Paulo at the age of 17.
Highlighted Team (Guimaraes):
Vitoria Guimaraes have always been in the shadow of famous Portuguese sides Porto, Benfica and Sporting, but over the years they have established themselves as a top-table side in the Primeira Liga. Os Vimaranenses did well to win Taca de Portugal in the 2012/2013 season, wi the team beating Benfica in the final of the domestic cup.
Vitoria Guimaraes finished the 2016/2017 Primeira Liga campaign in fourth place in the standings and, as a result, they booked their place in the Europa League qualifiers. The Portuguese side will face the likes of Salzburg, Konyaspor and Olympic Marseille in Group I and they are seen as underdogs in their group. Vitoria Guimaraes welcome their rivals at Estadio D. Alfonso Henriques and the venue can hold up to 30.000 spectators.
Os Vimaranenses play their home games in white shirts and white shorts, whilst they wear black when playing on the road. Their neighbours Braga are considered Guimaraes’ fiercest rivals and the two teams face each other in the derby of Minho Province.
