Our prediction for this Portugal Primeira Liga match:
After dropping two points in a goalless draw with Braga, Porto will be aiming to stay in top two when they host Portimonense to their Estadio do Dragao. The Dragons are eyeing their 11th home win of the process, and they are seen as hot favourites to beat O Portimao. Experienced centre-back Pepe should recover in time to face Portimonense, while both Galeno and Eustaquio are pushing for recalls to the starting XI.
The visitors, on the other hand, do not seem to be at the top of their game, with the team extending their losing run to four games against Vizela, and seeing that Porto have turned their “Dragao” into a real fortress, we do not believe that Paulo Sergio’s troops are capable of claiming a major scalp. In their last meeting at the venue Porto rolled over Portimonense 7-0, and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. To make things even worse for the away team, captain Pedro Miguel Sa is banned for the match.
Highlighted Player (Pepe):
Pepe is a professional footballer who plays for Porto as a defender. The Portuguese international played for Maritimo at the start of his senior career and in 2004 he moved to Porto. After making 64 league appearances for the Dragons, he signed a contract with Real Madrid in 2007 and he quickly established himself as a first-team regular.
Pepe is well known for his hard tackles and referees often show him red card. The Real Madrid centre back often played as a defensive midfielder under Jose Mourinho and it has to be noted that he scored five goals in all competitions in the 2013/2014 La Liga campaign.
The Portuguese footballer won his second Champions League trophy with Real Madrid in the 2015/2016 season and later in 2016 he helped A Selecao win the European Championship trophy. Portugal defeated France in the title game and Pepe played an important role in Fernando Santos’ team in the Euro 2016 final. The Real Madrid defender was born in Maceio, Brazil on 26 February, 1983.
Highlighted Team (Portimonense):
Based in Portimao, Portimonense is a Portuguese football club that play home games at Estadio Municipal in Algarve. The capacity of the stadium that was opened in 1937 is 9,544. Portimonense welcome their rivals in black and white shirts and black shirts, whilst yellow is dominant colour of their away kit.
The black and whites finished the 1984/1985 Primeira Liga campaign in 5th position in the standings and, as a result, booked their place in the UEFA Cup. Portimonense did well to Partizan 1-0 on their debut in the European competition, but they suffered a heavy 4-0 loss to the famous Serbian club in the reverse fixture at Yugoslav National Army Stadium.
Fellow Algavre clubs Farense and Olhanense are considered the club’s main rivals. Jackson Martinez is one of the most notable footballers who played for the club. The Colombian attacker is considered one of the most successful attackers in the history of Porto as he scored 67 goals in 90 appearances for the Dragons in the Primeira Liga.
