Our prediction for this Portugal Primeira Liga match:
After coming from two goals behind to share the spoils with Porto, Sporting CP will look to return to winning ways when they face Portimonense in Lisbon on Saturday. The Lions are on the right track to regain the trophy and they are seen as hot favourites to beat O Portimao at Estadio Jose Alvalade. Ruben Amorim can’t count on suspended midfielder Marcus Edwards, while Matheus Reis remains in the recovery room.
Portimonense, on the other hand, are fighting tooth and nail to avoid relegation. O Portimao failed to impress in a 2-0 loss to Moreirense at the weekend and given Sporting CP’s 100% home record (15-0-0), we do not believe that the underdogs are capable of claiming a major scalp in Lisbon. In their last meeting at the venue Sporting CP defeated Portimonense 4-0 and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. To make things even worse for the away team, defender Goncalo Costa misses out through suspension.
Highlighted Player (Sebastian Coates):
Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on October 7, 1990, Sebastian Coates is a 196-cm-tall defender who plays for Sporting CP in Primeira Liga. Coates is the product of the hometown club Nacional, and it has to be noted that he scored eight goals in 60 appearances for the capital club in the national championship.
After ending his spell with English club Sunderland, the Uruguay international moved to Portugal, signing a loan deal with Sporting CP in January 2016. He signed a permanent contract with the Lions in February 2017.
Speaking of his international career, Sebastian Coastes made his full Uruguay debut against Chile at the 2011 Copa America. La Celeste won the trophy, with the team beating Paraguay 3-0 in the final of the competition at Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires. Coates wears the number 4 shirt at Sporting CP, and his preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Portimonense):
Based in Portimao, Portimonense is a Portuguese football club that play home games at Estadio Municipal in Algarve. The capacity of the stadium that was opened in 1937 is 9,544. Portimonense welcome their rivals in black and white shirts and black shirts, whilst yellow is dominant colour of their away kit.
The black and whites finished the 1984/1985 Primeira Liga campaign in 5th position in the standings and, as a result, booked their place in the UEFA Cup. Portimonense did well to Partizan 1-0 on their debut in the European competition, but they suffered a heavy 4-0 loss to the famous Serbian club in the reverse fixture at Yugoslav National Army Stadium.
Fellow Algavre clubs Farense and Olhanense are considered the club’s main rivals. Jackson Martinez is one of the most notable footballers who played for the club. The Colombian attacker is considered one of the most successful attackers in the history of Porto as he scored 67 goals in 90 appearances for the Dragons in the Primeira Liga.
