Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Manchester City will be aiming to put icing on the cake on a very successful season when they take on Brentford on Sunday afternoon. The Citizens managed to defend their Premier League title in style and they must be high on confidence ahead of the last game of the season. Pep Guardiola could decide to rest a couple of first-team regulars for the FA Cup final against Manchester United, but he has a full squad to choose from except for Nathan Ake.
The Bees, on the other hand, are eyeing a spot in the Conference League. The capital club are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach in Saturday’s clash, but seeing that top scorer Ivan Toney is banned for the match, we are tempted to put our money on the reigning champions. All Pontus Jansson, Christian Norgaard, and Keane Lewis-Potter miss out with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Ilkay Gundogan):
Ilkay Gundogan is a German footballer of Turkish origin who made a name for himself playing for Borussia Dortmund. The skilful midfielder began his professional career at VFL Bochum, but it was at Nurnberg that he was given the opportunity to prove his undoubted potential. He needed just two years to make Germany’s top clubs stand up and take notice and the Millionaires secured his signature for mere €4 million.
That would prove to be a great investment as Gundogan quickly slotted straight into the starting line-up and became a playmaker in the side led by Jurgen Klopp and later Thomas Tuchel. The midfield maestro kept being linked with clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal, but he resisted temptation to leave Borussia Dortmund, winning one Bundesliga trophy with the club and making it to the Champions League final.
Gundogan unfortunately missed the 2014 World Cup finals through injury, but there is still time for the BVB star to make things right and lift a major international trophy with Germany.
Highlighted Team (Brentford):
Based in London, Brentford compete in the Championship and they were founded in 1898. Griffin Park has been the home ground of the club since 1904 and the capacity of the venue is 12,300.
The Bees have yet to play in the Premier League and it has to be noted that they made it to the FA Cup sixth round on four occasions (1937/1938, 1945/1946,1948/1949, 1988/1989). Brentford played in the League Cup round 4 in the 1982/1983 and 2010/2011 season and that is the club’s biggest success in the competition.
Brentford’s main rivals are Fulham and Queens Park Rangers and they take on each other in the West London Derby. The rivalry with the Cottagers is probably the biggest and you should bear in mind that the clashes between the two teams have their history of crowd violence. The colour of Brentford’s shirts is red and white and they wear black shorts.
