Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Craven Cottage will host Saturday’s local derby between Fulham and Brentford. The Cottagers aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Everton, but this local derby will be anything but a walk in the park for the home side. Key attacker Aleksandar Mitrovic should be recalled to the starting XI after committing his future to Fulham, while midfielder Joao Palhinha miss out with a shoulder problem.
The Bees, on the other hand, played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Kane-less Tottenham in the opening match of the season and, no doubt, they should be happy with one point from the Craven Cottage clash as well. Ivan Toney remains on the sidelines through suspension, while both Ben Mee and Mathias Jensen should be fit for the match. In Toney’s absence, DR Congo international Yoane Wissa should keep his place up front, alongside Bryan Mbeumo.
Highlighted Player (Tom Cairney):
Tom Cairney is a professional footballer who plays for Fulham. His main position is central midfielder, but he plays as an attacking midfielder and a right midfielder as well. The left-footed player was born in Nottingham, England on 20 January, 1991 and he started his youth career at Leeds United.
In 2007 he moved to Hull City and he was named Hull’s Young Player of the Year for the 2008/2009 campaign. After making 70 league appearances for the Tigers he joined Blackburn Rovers on 1 August, 2013 on loan and on 2 January, 2014 he signed a permanent deal with the Riversiders. At the end of the 2014/2015 Championship campaign he joined Fulham.
Tom Cairney’s father is Scottish and, as a result, the Fulham footballer decided to represent Scotland on the international stage. Cairney has 2 caps for Scotland U-21 and he made 6 appearances for Scotland U-21 team. It has to be noted that he suffered a serious injury in August 2012. The injury forced him to be out of contention for over three months.
Highlighted Team (Brentford):
Based in London, Brentford compete in the Championship and they were founded in 1898. Griffin Park has been the home ground of the club since 1904 and the capacity of the venue is 12,300.
The Bees have yet to play in the Premier League and it has to be noted that they made it to the FA Cup sixth round on four occasions (1937/1938, 1945/1946,1948/1949, 1988/1989). Brentford played in the League Cup round 4 in the 1982/1983 and 2010/2011 season and that is the club’s biggest success in the competition.
Brentford’s main rivals are Fulham and Queens Park Rangers and they take on each other in the West London Derby. The rivalry with the Cottagers is probably the biggest and you should bear in mind that the clashes between the two teams have their history of crowd violence. The colour of Brentford’s shirts is red and white and they wear black shorts.
