Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Buoyed by a thrilling 3-0 win over Everton, Manchester City will look to clinch their ninth Premier League trophy when they face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. The Citizens have been impressive in the second half of the season and it is no wonder the bookies see them as hot favourites to beat Frank Lampard’s troops. Both Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are pushing for a start after the duo came off the bench in the last league match, while Pep Guardiola has no fresh injury worries.
Meanwhile, the Blues failed to impress in a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Matchday 36. Since Chelsea have nothing to play for in the season finale, we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Man City’s party at Etihad Stadium. All Kante, Mount, James, Cucurella, and Chilwell are sidelined with injuries, while Kalidou Koulibaly is a major doubt.
Highlighted Player (Ilkay Gundogan):
Ilkay Gundogan is a German footballer of Turkish origin who made a name for himself playing for Borussia Dortmund. The skilful midfielder began his professional career at VFL Bochum, but it was at Nurnberg that he was given the opportunity to prove his undoubted potential. He needed just two years to make Germany’s top clubs stand up and take notice and the Millionaires secured his signature for mere €4 million.
That would prove to be a great investment as Gundogan quickly slotted straight into the starting line-up and became a playmaker in the side led by Jurgen Klopp and later Thomas Tuchel. The midfield maestro kept being linked with clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal, but he resisted temptation to leave Borussia Dortmund, winning one Bundesliga trophy with the club and making it to the Champions League final.
Gundogan unfortunately missed the 2014 World Cup finals through injury, but there is still time for the BVB star to make things right and lift a major international trophy with Germany.
Highlighted Team (Chelsea):
Over the years Chelsea have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in the English Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo helped the team win their first ever Champions League trophy (2011/2012), but it has to be noted that they were more than fortunate to beat Bayern Munich in the title game.
Chelsea have been playing at Stamford Bridge since 1876 and they are a real force to be reckoned with at home. The Blues have won seven FA Cups, five League Cups, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups and the UEFA Europa League. Rafael Benitez was in charge of the team that faced Benfica in the 2012/2013 Europa League final, with Branislav Ivanovic scoring the winner for the Blues in the title clash.
After lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, the Blues largely struggled in the next campaign, which saw Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the club come to an end, and Antoine Conte went over to take the reigns for the 2016/2017 season.
