Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Atletico Madrid and Girona square off against each other at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in the closing match of the La Liga round 2. Los Rojiblancos played out a 2-2 draw with Villarreal in their opener and they are now on a quest to record their first win of the process. Star signing Julian Alvarez is likely to make his full Atletico Madrid debut against Girona, with his compatriot Rodrigo de Paul pushing for a start as well.
The Catalans, on the other hand, played out a 1-1 draw with Real Betis in the opening match of their La Liga campaign. New Roma signing Artem Dovbyk seems to be sorely missed and seeing that Atletico Madrid have turned their stadium into a real fortress, home win should be considered. Dovbyk’s compatriot Viktor Tsygankov has been struggling with a thigh injury of late, which is yet another reason why we are going to bet on Diego Simeone’s troops.
Highlighted Player (Antoine Griezmann):
Anthony Griezmann is a French forward born on 21st March 1991 in Macon, and he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting footballers at the moment. The pacey striker started showing his potential shortly after coming through Real Sociedad’s youth academy and he went on to score 46 goals in 179 league appearances for La Real. Excellent displays in Spanish la Liga saw him become a target for a number of top clubs, but he eventually choose to sign for Atletico Madrid, and that proved to be a very good decision.
Griezmann continued the rich vein of form at Vicente Calderon, scoring some important goals as los Colchoneros enjoyed domestic and European success, while also becoming a key member of the France national team.
Playing as a winger or second striker, Griezmann possesses impressive technical skills, he is a strong finisher and still finds time to work hard for his side, so no wonder he is widely regarded as one of the leading forwards on the continent. He won the U19 European Championship with France and is tipped to lead Les Bleus to glory on senior level as well.
Highlighted Team (Girona):
After several unsuccessful attempts, finally secured promotion to Primera Division at the end of the 2016/2017 season. The Catalan outfit finished the campaign in second place in the standings, 14 points behind Levante and only two clear of third-placed Getafe. Girona play their home games at Montilivi and the capacity of the venue is 9.286.
Speaking of the club history, Girona were founded in the café Norat in La Rambla of Girona on July 23, 1930 and they played their first official game against Colonia Artigas. A number of Spanish coaches were in charge of the team in the past, but it has to be noted that Uruguayan tactician Dagoberto Moll (1965/1966) and Karoly Plattko (1948/1949) of Hungary were in charge of the club as well.
The Catalan team wear white shirts with red stripes when playing at home, while the colour of their shorts is blue. The team’s away kits are blue and black and Sporting Gijon are considered one of Girona’s fiercest rivals.
