Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Barcelona will be aiming to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano in their first La Liga game following Koeman’s sacking. Interim manager Sergi Barjuan and his men are eager to give fans something to cheer about, and they are likely to fight tooth and nail against Alaves. Kun Aguero was more than unfortunate not to find the net in the midweek clash, but he should continue to lead the line for the hosts.
Sergi Roberto is a major doubt, while both Ansu Fati and Pedri are likely to miss the game with injuries. The Basques, on the other hand, aim to build on back-to-back wins over Cadiz and Elche, and they will surely give 100% to spoil Barca’s party at Camp Nou. However, home win should be considered as the arrival of the new boss is likely to help Barcelona players improve their game. There should be no absentees in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Gerard Pique):
Gerard Pique is a Spanish footballer who was born in Barcelona on 2 February, 1987. He is married to famous Colombian singer Shakira and they have two sons Milan and Sasha. Pique is a product of La Masia, the Barca’s youth academy, but he started his senior career at Manchester United.
He returned to his boyhood club in 2008 and he has been playing for the Catalan giants ever since. The 193-cm-tall footballer is a centre back who is good in the air. His main position is centre back, but he is capable of playing a defensive midfielder if needed. Pique won his sixth La Liga trophy with Barca in the 2015/2016 season and in 2008 he has three Champions League titles with the Catalan giants as well.
During his spell with Manchester United, Gerard Pique won the Premier League trophy (2007/2008) and he helped the Red Devils win the Champions League trophy the same season. Speaking of his international career, the Barcelona defender won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain, while lifting the European Championship trophy two years later.
Highlighted Team (Alaves):
Alaves is a Spanish football club located in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava. The club were founded in 1921 and they play their home games at Estadio Mendizorrotza. The capacity of the stadium is 19,840 and it has to be noted that it is the third oldest stadium in Spanish football. After spending several years in the Spanish Segunda Division, los Babazorros returned to the top flight in 2016.
The color of Alaves’ home kit is blue and white and the club’s local rivals are fellow Basque sides Real Sociedad, Athletic Club, Osasuna and Eibar. Alaves made it to the UEFA CUP final in 2001, but they were beaten by Liverpool 5-4 in a thrilling football clash. Anyhow, that is still regarded as the club’s biggest success. Los Babazorros booked their place in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on four occasions and they have yet to win the Primera Division trophy.
