Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Elche and Espanyol, the two mid-table sides, take on each other at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero on day 10 of the new La Liga campaign. Los Franjiverdes continue with their old habit of producing much better showings at home than on the travels, with the team eyeing their third home triumph of the process. Fit-again attacker Lucas Boye should keep his place in the starting XI after finding the net in a 2-1 loss at Rayo at the weekend.
Los Periquitos, on the other hand, have been showing signs of improvement of late, with the team beating both Real Madrid and Cadiz in the previous two league fixtures. The Catalan outfit aim to give fans yet another reason for celebration, but beating Elche on the road is easier said than done. A close encounter is on the cards at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, and we believe that there is a big value in betting on draw. Both Miguelon and Javi Puado are out of contention with injuries for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Victor Rodriguez):
Victor Rodriguez is a professional player who began his senior career at Vilajuiga, playing 36 matches for the club and scoring 11 goals. After spending three years at Badalona the pacey winger joined Zaragoza and it has to be noted that he scored six goals in 72 appearances for the Estadio La Romareda outfit in La Liga.
On 7 August, 2014 Victor Rodriguez signed a three-year deal with Elche, but in August 2015 he was sent to Getafe on loan. Rodriguez scored two goals in 33 appearances for los Azulones in the 2015/2016 Primera Division campaign, but following Getafe’s relegation to Segunda Division, he signed a four-year deal with Sporting Gijon in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Victor Rodriguez has yet to make his Spain debut, but he played for Catalonia in a friendly game. The Sporting Gijon winger is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well. Rodriguez was born in Barcelona on 23 July, 1989.
Highlighted Team (Espanyol):
Espanyol are a Catalan club that plays in Spanish La Liga. Espanyol were founded in 1900 and their original name was Sociedad Espanola de Football. In 1901 the Catalan club changed its name to Club Espanol de Futbol. Los Periquitos used to play in bright yellow shirts in the past, but current colour of the team’s home kit is blue and white.
Espanyol’s fiercest rivals are Barcelona and the two teams face each other in the Catalan derby (Derbi barceloni). Espanyol have always been in Barca’s shadow, but it has to be noted that los Periquitos have won four Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup trophies).
The likes of Raul Tamudo, Jose Maria, Antonio Argiles and Mauricio Pochettino are players with most appearances for the Catalan outfit. Espanyol play their home games at Estadio Cornella-El Prat and the capacity of the stadium is 40,500. Los Periquitos have never participated in the Champions League.
