Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Real Madrid and Almeria square off against each other at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in a David-vs-Goliath clash. Los Blancos crushed Barcelona 4-1 in the Super Cup final, with fit-again winger Vinicius Junior scoring a hat-trick and, no doubt, the Brazil ace will pose a big threat for Almeria defenders as well. All Eder Militao, Lucas Vazquez, David Alaba, and Thibaut Courtois continue to miss out with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the home team.
The Andalusians, on the other hand, produced a fine display in a goalless draw with league leaders Girona, but given their poor away record in the 2023/2024 La Liga campaign, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. To make things even worse for the away side, all Iddrisu Baba, Houboulang Mendes, and Marciano Sanca are on international duty, while Leo Baptistao misses out through suspension.
Highlighted Player (Luka Modric):
Luka Modric is regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football. The Croatian ace is a product of Dinamo Zagreb’s youth school and it has to be noted that he played 94 league games for the Modri between 2003 and 2008. In 2008 he signed a six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £16.5 million.
Luka made his Tottenham debut on 16 August, 2008 in a 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium. The Croatian star scored only 13 goals in 127 league appearances for the Spurs, but he is well known for his brilliant passing. In 2012 he signed for Real Madrid for a fee of £30 million and he made his debut against Barcelona in the 2012 Spanish Super Cup, return leg.
Modric quickly established himself as a first-team regular and, no doubt, he helped the capital club win two Champions League trophies (2013/2014, 2015/2016). You should bear in mind that he was named Croatian Footballer of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
Highlighted Team (Almeria):
UD Almeria is a Spanish club based in the autonomous community of Andalusia. Los Rojiblancos are one of the newer additions to the Spanish football system, with the club being founded on July 26, 1989.
Almeria suffered relegation to Segunda Division in the 2014/15 season, and they have been competing in the Spanish second tier ever since. Los Rojiblancos are well known for their white shirts with red stripes, while blue is the dominant colour of their away jersey. Sofiane Feghouli, Felipe Melo, Diego Alves, Veljko Paunovic, Aleix Vidal, Alvaro Negredo, Tomer Hemed, and Mate Bilic are some notable footballers who played for Almeria in the past. Fellow Andalusian clubs Sevilla, Malaga, and Granada are considered the club’s fiercest rivals.
The club’s biggest success in Copa del Rey came in the 2010/11 season when they made it to the semis of the prestigious competition. Nonetheless, Catalan giants Barcelona proved to be a big catch for Almeria in the Spanish Cup semi-finals.
