Sparkles will be flying when Villarreal and Atletico Madrid go head to head in a highly-anticipated season opener. The Yellow Submarine failed to win the last four warm-up games and given their poor defensive performance in a 4-0 loss to Brighton, home win should not be considered. Gimenez is primarily a central defender and is recognized to be a natural and fast defender who is classy on the ball. His qualities came to the fore during his youth team presence at Toledo but his professional debut was in 2012 for Danubio.
His stint at the club was short-lived as the highly rated defender was quickly snapped up by Atletico Madrid after raving reviews. He soon made his mark in Diego Simeone’s team and became a crowd favorite after scoring a vital header against rivals Real Madrid.
He participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup reaching the finals with Uruguay. His senior team debut was in 2013 and has played 21 times for the national side. Gimenez also has three goals in international colors, the first of which came in 2014.

Villarreal CF was founded on 10th of March 1923. In the year 1998 Villarreal managed to reach the Primera Division for the first time in history of the club. After 1 season the club could not manage to stay in the league and go regulated to the Segunda Division. This first European succes was in 2003/2004 where the club managed to reach the semi finals in the UEFA cup. In 2004/2005 Villarreal end 3rd on the table in the Primera Division which was a highlight for the club.
